Entry written by Secunia.

In this article by Secunia for Help Net Security, Stefan Frei, Secunia’s Research Analyst Director discusses how organisations can ensure that they identify the right vulnerability to patch at the right time. Is the optimal strategy to patch according to market share (static strategy) or according to risk (dynamic strategy)?

To delve deeper into this challenge, the article therefore investigates the mind-set of an attacker, threat origins, the shifting goal posts of patch management, and intelligent patching strategies. The outcome of choosing the right patching strategy is that more can be achieved with less. Importantly; knowing what to patch pays off.
