Entry written by Secunia.

In the article ‘Not Running Secunia PSI? Why Not?' Bill Mullins, computer expert and industry blogger, compares leaving a PC unpatched with the behaviour of his security complacent neighbour. The neighbour continues to leave a window open in her house whenever she’s out, despite warnings from the police.

A compromised computer can remain undetected for a long time, therefore allowing cybercriminals ample time to access and search through personal information. “As important as it is, that you secure your computer by implementing a layered security approach, it’s equally as important that you close any “open windows” in your operating system, by keeping your installed applications current and up-to-date.”

Bill Mullins therefore recognises the Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) as a key tool for securing private PCs.

Have down loaded PSI 2 but It can't find the internet connection over which I downloadeed. I used to be able to use PSI 1 then all of a sudden it couldn't find the connection. Using Fire fox browser. Alse newest version Internet Explorer can not find the connection (but this is not a problem). Using Vista

To be honest I really didn't know that this exist. Will definitely give this a try. I am currently having some troubles at the moment with my unit but once this one is done reformatted, I will install the latest Beta version available. I have friends who are corporate workers and they have mentioned this software to me over our dinner last Friday. I've heard some good comments and some of it flaws but still willing to learn this one.

Hopefully it is not as hard to use as I think it is.

Good luck to me!

Hi Maurice,

This might be off topic but is there a thread in here already that discusses about the differences between the previous versions of secunia and the latest beta 5.o version?

p.s. Thank you for the FAQ link

Thanks,

Beta 5 is the Corporate CSI not the home user PSI or OSI. Beta testing is open to home users but once it goes stable U will be required to pay for it.

EDIT:
Sign up details for CSI BETA testing is here:

http://secunia.com/products/corporate/CSI/beta_tri...

Does this link help with PSI matters?

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

OSI is here:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/

Very limited search rules & is reliant on JAVA.

Comparison details for Home Users are here:

http://secunia.com/products/consumer/compare/

Hope this helps.

I have been running version 1.5 and did not upgrade to 2.0 on my laptop because it will not scan without aborting. I have version 2.0 (3003) on two desktops that work fine. All computers, including the laptop run Windows 7 x64.
I have noticed on the laptop, that the Secunia Update Service does not install. Also, the settings-drives show no drives to select.
The scan starts and runs for about 9-10 seconds and then aborts. I have to restart Secunia to start another scan. I have tried all the suggestions to resolve this issue, but contrary to your message that the scan problem has been fixed, it doesn't work on my laptop.
I am open to any suggestions. Until it is really fixed, I am stuck with Ver 1.5
