up to a few months ago I could scan using PSI 2 from my computer and get results. A few weeks ago it could no longer find the internet connection. I have used some scans taken directly from the internet and now can't find these. Using firefox 5.0 Vista Thanks for any help -- IB3141 |

I don't know if this will help. I am using Windows 7 64bit. You should delete 1 extra (parasite) zone from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\ with pseudo-graphic number, you'll see it before zone number 0. P.S. By the way, this extra zone prevents desktop gadgets to be shown correctly. I forgot to mention, always back up your registry before making any changes. -- Beercow Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit Amd Athlon IIx4 630 Quad-core Firefox 11 6GB ram |

Press the start menu. Type regedit. Hit enter. You have to be an administrator to open regedit. From regedt, navigate to the location I posted and see if the extra value is there. It should be above zone 0 if it was the same problem I had. -- Beercow Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit Amd Athlon IIx4 630 Quad-core Firefox 11 6GB ram |

@IB3141 What anti-virus are you running? Try this: Navigating to the Program files folder and looking for the secunia folder double clicking it and inside the folder see if you see the secunia.exe (may only state psi app @ 16000 kb)and double click to see if the program opens from that location, or try to opening from the start menu (see foot note). What happens if you access https://psi.secunia.com ? You should be redirected to the PSI download/main page. If not, let E. Petersem know @. http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal Try resetting Internet Explorer to it's default settings, and then applying the configuration explained in FAQ item #s3: http://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/faq/#s3 This can undo changes that some security programs sometimes make to IE's configuration. If none of those ideas work reinstalling may have to be done. -- |

@IB3141 Have you checked that your firewall permissions are still allowing Secunia....havn't altered recently ? I have had instances when upgrading/installing, when the permission hasn't carried over. Have you run CHKDSK recently for orphaned files and what not.....it can sometimes set things in order. You need to be careful so you get it right if you have problems let me know and if it solved your problem let us know: here goes, first you need to go to the command prompt (click start then type cmd in the search window, then type or copy and paste paste it with a right click IN the blackbox exactly as it is typed: Mark and copy the next line: cd "c:\Program Files (x86)\Secunia\PSI" then right click inside the black box and choose "Paste" ok after you have done that type and again exactly as it is here: Psia -r and then hit enter then type: Psia -i and hit enter again ok now, Then there should come up a box that asks for your password, type in the password and hit enter - please be aware that you can't see that you type anything and that this wont work if you have an empty password. please note this is a user account password that you use. then close that out and open secunia and see if it is scanning if not try it again and see if it works BLindow Trouble Scanning? If it still doesn't work here are some things you can try: 1) make sure everything in Internet Explore is as in our FAQ: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... 2) try reinstalling Secunia PSI. 3) try running the service as a local Administrator account instead of Local System. That this is very similiar to "No Scripts" in Mozilla. DEP has got nothing directly to do with Microsoft Essentials nor will anyone find a setting to change what resembles the wording DEP within the programme. DEP is part of all Windows Operating Systems (and others). The setting on XP,which was installed as part of SP2, are at: Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance - then click the settings button>Data Protection Tab. Use the top setting for general protection (my default setting) or the bottom setting if U fully understand what DEP does & how changes U make will affect your global protection. In Windows 7 (& I assume Vista) it is at Control Panel>System>System Protection>Advanced>Performance>click the settings button>click the Data Protection Tab I have been using Microsoft Essentials(MSE) with default settings for over two months on my rotational testing of various Firewalls/anti viral programmes on my test PC (XP SP3). It works flawlessly with PSI version 1.5 series & 2 series. Altering DEP & tinkering with MSE will not solve this issue. I,like @Mogs, now question what the problem really is. My initial response was given on the basis that there was no contact with the Secunia server(s) - that appears to have been resolved & it is now a graphics problem - or is it? One can only guess until @Mogs questions are answered. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

@IB3141 It seems very likely that the problems are inter-related. Nevertheless, you seem to have progressed from your original first post....tho' you seem able to complete a scan of sorts....you don't make clear whether your'e accessing the Secunia interface....only the icon. I would suggest; now that you've explained a little more....that you listen to Maurice, whom has lots more experience and of/with HP. I'm sure he'll pick the matter up shortly. What happens EXACTLY when U do this? Right click on the PSI Tasktray icon & select Open Secunia PSI. Click Yes to the UAC prompt. The interface should now open & U should be able to see the dashboard. On the dashboard click Scan Your PC>another Window will open>click Start Scan>PSI will complete a scan ending with a notification box>click View Scan Results>this should allow U to see all the programmes installed on your PC. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Maurice------- When I scan over the icon on the tray,i get a rating of 85. If I update the the programs, this mark will change to 90+. If I right click the icon and press open, the UAC comes up and I press continue. Then the Secunia page comes up and the statement says "Verifying Internet connection". There is a series of dots and the first has a red dot in it, but the dots never advance.for over 15 to 20 minutes. This is all I can now see of Secunia. There is no dashboard, all i get to see is the Verifying Internet Connection Thanks -- IB3141 |

Maurice--------- A month or two ago, I downloaded IE9 and when I try to open it, it tells me that whatever page I indicate that it can't be found. Trying to follow your instructions, I checked the Internet Options/connections/setup and am told that IE 9 is connected to the internet. I don't like IE and have only used it when absolutely necessary. IE doesn't work. I opened Chrome 13.0----and using the PSI icon on the tray. tried to to get to scan. I got to the verifying internet connection and no further. I then tried to download PSI 2 and install it with Chrome. After a successful download, the attempt to open again only went as far as the "verifying internet connection" and then died. thanks for your efforts -- IB3141 |

Of course IE works. It is the only browser that I use or have ever used on a main platform.. IE is embedded into Windows & certain functions will not work, including Windows Update, unless it is set up & running correctly. That does not mean that IE needs to be your preferred PC default browser. Parts of Secunia will not work either until IE is operating normally. I suspect that is why many websites U are navigating to including HP will not function correctly. Can U successfully use Windows Update? Are all the hotfixes issued by Microsoft installed? -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

It is very late here in the UK. From the information U have given I can only really offer general advice on what I would do in your situation. 1. Reinstall IE9 from here ensuring U select Windows Vista 32 Bit from the drop down box. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explor... There is no requirement to uninstall anything before U start. U will be offered the opportunity to make IE9 your default browser during the install (if allowed to run) - select Yes. Allow set up to proceed to the Microsoft Recommended settings. That should reset your corrupt registry entry & get things going. Now run Windows Update & if necessary fully update your system with all hotfixes offered. Next run PSI. That should now work provided U have indeed checked the FAQ as previously requested to do. Try to browse all the websites that U are experiencing difficulty with. If that all works reset Firefox as your default browser. This can be achieved by installing the latest version from here & allowing it to become your default browser. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/ Now try PSI again. If that works U should be "home & dry". -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Maurice ---- I downloaded the new IE9 as you suggested and it would not install because it would not displace a higher version. I tried to uninstall IE9 three times and finally found instructions on how. Followed these, rebooted, and downloaded a new IE9. Installed the new program and things seemed to go right and rebooted. Something seemed wrong since there were not the usual question about new icons or where to place the file. After rebooting, I tried to open IE9 but it would not because that the installation was stopped because it would not replace a higher revision. I seems I may have more troubles than I know. I appreciate your assistance. I may have more wrong with my computer than I know. I may try to get ahold of Microsoft to see if they might help with the installation. Again thanks for all your effort and help. . -- IB3141 |
