Moderator: I've unsubscribed several times to the "unnable to aply the patch" thread and up top it shows me as not subscribed, but notices keep coming. This has been going on for a few days. Is there a bug? Please help.

I am talking "a load of old cobblers". As a Thread creator U cannot unsubscribe from a thread.

The only option is for U to Accept a thread which locks it.

Can U please:

1. Remove all my daft emails from your in box.

2. I will create a new test thread clearly indicating it is for U.

3. Reply to my thread & then Unsubscribe.

4. I will respond & U should not be notified by email.

5. Please note that if U reply a second time to my thread it will resubscribe U to it.

Sorry, I had to go out. I did not get notices for any of your subsequent emails. Since I was the creator, maybe it's even more screwed up. The notices keep coming for the other thread, even though it says above it., "You are not subscribing to this thread. If you want to subscribe, please click here."

I'm now subscribed to this so you can let me know what's next.

I have reduced the size of this thread & deleted some of my posts.

This thread might give U clue on Website matters:

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/114...

Can U clear down any emails U have received as a result of the tests so far.

I am unable to create a thread to carry out further tests. I have asked Anthony Wells to create a test thread that U can respond to.

Once he creates the thread could U please reply & then unsubscribe. I will chip in with a few posts which hopefully will not trigger off an email to U.

It could be another bug affecting "a few" but worth proving it before reporting the findings.

Hello Maurice ,

When I go to "create a thread" already logged-in and obviously can post this/a reply to this/a thread , I am asked to "create a Secunia Community Profile" first . Still a bit busy atm so I do not have the time to run through the system .

Will try to help with a test thread , if I get the time to work things out .and the website allows me so to do .

Anthony

Anthony,
Thanks for trying. U have the bug as well. I reported it to Marketing & Support on 29th August.
No reply yet & more importantly no fix for this & other web bugs since they tinkered with a working model!

Hello again ,

I wasn't too keen on the previos website update but this latest "Webmaster" creation is a disaster and makes navigation , reading , writing and posting "hard work :(((((" - never a first choice ..

Take care

Thanks Maurice and Anthony. Story of my life, being the person to find the glitch in the system - and say something about it.

My unsubscribe function is working perfectly but I understand what U mean. The website has never worked properly since Marketing announced it had created a masterpiece.

Unreliability causes uncertainly as in this case - is it your PC or Secunia?

I have got my bet on - it is a certain winner!

Hi all

Sorry I got to party late but FWIW I get this when
trying to create new thread "When I go to "create a thread" already logged-in and obviously can post this/a reply to this/a thread , I am asked to "create a Secunia Community Profile" first ." This quote is from Anthony Wells post above-just thought I'd let y'all know it affects
v1.5.0.2 as well as v2.0.xxxx

So I'm taking the same bet as Maurice as I
clearly remember the 'chocolate chain guard'.
Or in other words 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'

Regards, wr

Hi ,

Just checked and I now get to the correct "Creatae a thread" page .

Have not gone further as yet by opening one .

Another step back to the "real" world ??!!

EDIT :- do you still need a test thread for @genegold ??

Take care

Anthony

EDIT :- scratch that , it now/again asks me to create a profle !!!((((

Ok : the dark grey link just above (right) the red subject line/thread heading works ; the one in the upper Forum thread choice bar/drop menu does not !!

Two other things about the system:

1) I've noticed that it consistently generates three emails per post. For example, I just got three notices of Anthony's last one, showing send at 8:29am, 8:31 and 8:36. Not very common here except with Secunia.

2) System logs user out every day, rather than maintaining community login over time. This is not a bank.

Hi Gene ,

The three/four emails are my fault as you will see on (very close) inspection , that the first mail is for my original post and then I "edited" 2/3 times (shown in bold) rather than posting anew . Serial editing unless entirely necessary (as happened in this case) is a real nuisance ; so sorry for that .

OOh look , another email :))

Take care

Anthony

Good point, but not really your fault. I can't recall any other forum I'm subscribed to that generates more than one per post, no matter how many edits.

Gene ,

The "edit" does not promte the thread in the Forum/sub-Forum overall view of the threads , so when a thread is "edited" it will not always be apparent ; similarly while the last edit time is referred to inthe lhs colum to the post , if it is not highlighted in some) the edit may not be obvious , more so if it is merely a grammar or spelling correction .

The "new website" is giving me loads of problems due to ageing eyes , mild dyslexsia and a lack of a "suitable - to me) spellchjecker in Firefox . So it becomes a compromise between accuracy of typing and legible comprehension . Mostly I just let it ride .

My 3 Edits (above) were due to changes in my knowledge rather than anything PC !!

I think the daily check out on General is a good thing , but then again I amways shutdown overnight and my Browsers clean themselves .

I understand about aging eyes. Just got a 1920x1200 monitor that I'm running at 120% and that's a compromise. This site is awfully small.

I'm not understanding the business about editing. Why should Save after editing generate another email? Not common.

I also turn off my computer at night, have browsers set to clear (mainly Opera) and run Ccleaner, but that doesn't clear logins at most other forums. This is a security one, so I'm not surprised.

One other thing: notice how after saving the focus doesn't return to your post? Same thing re the link that's sent - goes to the top. Not very sophisticated.

I'm on my 32" LCD FS TV with wifi mouse and keyboard but now need to crane my neck , Gene !!

I can get reasonable vision , as can wr , in Firefox with the NoSquint add-on , but as I said , cannot get a Spellchecker (GB English) that suits me .

I was using 140% zoom in Chrome but need 100% to "see" the overall thread page and it is minute , almost impossible to "read" . I do get a good spellcheck but no independent "text zoom" .

Can't speak for IE , but it doesn't seem any better/different when I use IE Tab to view it within Ff or Chrome .

I do not have a refocus problem but tjere are relocation problems within the thread .

And there are some other navigation problems ; all told , hard work and far more time & hassle than is/should be needed to contribute to this Forum .

Maybe these young "Webmasters" - a seeming contradiction in terms - should ask granny first before running rough shod over elders and possibly betters !! Not that I'm a gambler :))

Anthony

Edit : PS : my browsers are set to clear out everything except cookies which are controlled by CC . One more email for spam .
