Good morning (UK).

I've just run my (PC Pitstop) PC Matic. Included in the results are that both of the above "have been optimized"

I hadn't a clue that they needed to be!

Did I overlook something that I should have done?
What will be the effects of the optimization? Will I notice any difference?

Good morning ( Britain ) taffy !
Don't know what Pit Stop does......but could "optimization" refer to defragmentation processes ?
For instance....still using Puran as I do....the term refers to moving files to faster areas of the disk.....just a thought.

Hi taffy ,

Your post sums up the problem of succumbing to the sales hype of the Optimizer/cleaner vendors and letting their programmes do whatever "they" wish on your machine . Caveat Emptor .

Ignorance is not always bliss , so check the PC Pitstop forums here :-

http://optimize.pcpitstop.com/

To answer your question(s) :-

You have not done anything wrong/missed something PSI/Secunia wise and you are most unlikely to "see/notice" any difference unless the "Optimiser" broke something in the Registry for you .

What do the log files say has/have been "changed" .

Take a lot of care .

Anthony

good morning, Anthony. (Afternoon there? = one hour ahead of GMT?)

I accept your Caveat Emptor comments but as a (typical?) Joe Public PC user, I have to rely on advice given by experts in the media.

And PC Pistop scans & products such as Optimize, PC Matic, Disk MD etc are said by most experts to be excellent. Indeed, Anthony, there is an excellent testimonial from Jim, Iowa, saying how wonderful the products are. Perhaps his PC expertise is the same standard as mine!

No - you're right, Anthony. We really do have to take care. I bought Uni-Blue Registry Cleaner on the advice of media experts and now, in another thread, Maurice has warned of the damage that that can do. I'll stick to crown green bowls - when the next season arrives. I'm not very good at that, either, but at least I can do myself no harm!

The report follows. Actions/advice are in brackets.

Hi taffy ,

It tells what it did , as in , the result , but not what was done to achieve the result :ie: not really helpful .

Not sure what you hope to achieve with Pitstop and running Uniblue as well is really overkill and closezr to misery :(( Your system set up is very similar to mine and I have never seen any tangible benefit from these types of programmes . I do use "CCleaner" and a defrag app. fairly regularly and a well trimmed "start up" has me in play as quick as you like . All I can add is "Don't believe everything your Daddy tells you nor what you read in the papers" - as in media - not to be trusted . Oh , and don't drop a wood on your foot .

If you need advice , ask someone who knows you and your system and they can tailor things to your needs .

Take care

Anthony

Thanks for this, Anthony. Much appreciated.

I bought UniBlue on the advice of someone in the forum as I thought I had no registry cleaner. But Optimise does that so I won't renew Uniblue.

Thanks again
