I downloaded and installed Secunia 2.0 and when I try to run it I get DEP closed program. The alternative is to either check Secunia as a program DEP ignores OR run DEP only on Windows programs. I've tried both and DEP won't let it run. I have XP sp3. Can anyone help me? Thanx |

Maurice, I couldn't get PSI 2.0 to run even after I followed all the directions you sent me. The same problem. I can send you the error message I get if that will help. There are about 7 of them - the first is BEX P1: PSI.EXE Hope you can help me. Thanx Bob |

Bob, I suspect there is a corruption somewhere. U can try this which will result in a clean install. Uninstall PSI using this method: Right click the Start Orb>Open Windows Explorer>C:\>Program Files>Secunia>PSI> in the right pane U will see Uninstall.exe>activate it. Once the uninstall has run right click on the Secunia entry in the left pane & select delete. This removes a leftover log file & the programme entry. Next, left click on Start>Run - in the search box insert regedit>OK Once in the Registry navigate to here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Secunia\PSI and delete the key named UserID which U will see in the RIGHT hand pane (Please ONLY remove this key). Reboot. Navigate back to the Registry & check that key has gone. Next, use the Windows clean up tool to remove any temporary files (there is no requirement to purge other options if U prefer not to). Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools>Disk Clean Up Now reinstall PSI using this link: http://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 SP1 16GB RAM |

Bob, U could try looking at the DEP settings again. This may help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Preven... I have just checked the setting on my XP test machine. DEP is set at the top option. As I have explained elsewhere on the Forum I am using my XP PC to investigate a PSI problem whereby the drives do not populate in the settings tab. So there is no misunderstanding this problem is almost certain related to using a Registry Cleaner & not a PSI error. On that basis I am reluctant to tinker with my DEP settings while my other investigation is ongoing. Have U got EMET installed? Details here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2458544 I have not got this installed but there could be a relationship. Keep the thread open. I note that @ddmarshal is active on this Forum & may well chip in a give U a good steer particularly if using EMET With extra luck Anthony Wells may see this thread. He uses XP successfully & may be able to give U his settings. At least U have a clean install from which to troubleshoot further. I will tinker around to see if I can help further. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 SP1 16GB RAM |

Hi , This has been a problem in the past - for one or two reasons . It was last reported in this thread where the specific XP settings from the FAQ seemed to work :- http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/102... Maybe ddm will also remember the problem . Very busy atm ; will try to get back later to see the progress . Anthony EDIT:PS: I have the second/lower DEP option "ticked" with nothing entered in in the box underneath . -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |

Maurice, I've tried all the solutions offered and still not able to run PSI 2.0. Very disheartening. Can I down load the older vs. 1.0? Perhaps theat will work...otherwise can I use the online scanner? Bob |

Bob, I would certainly give an older version a try. Click this link: http://secunia.com/PSI1Setup.exe Let it run. It will auto uninstall the old version before a reinstall. U can always use the OSI. To me it has two major drawbacks. 1. The scanned database is limited & does not give a full picture. 2. It is reliant on Oracle JAVA being installed. Because of continual security issues (it is vulnerable now & has been for some time) I personally do not install it on my main platform. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 SP1 16GB RAM |

Bob, How are U getting on? Have we managed to break all versions of PSI on your PC? EDIT: No response from the originator after 7 days.
