FIRST OF MY APOLOGIES FOR THE CAPITAL LETTERS,

CAN'T DO OTHERWISE ON THIS SITE,OR EVERYTHING BECOMES A JUMBLE.

1.ON REINSTALLING SECUNIA A FEW DAYS AGO,IT COULDN'T SEE INSTALLED PROGRAMS.

I MANAGED TO FIX THAT.

2.NOW THIS MORNING IT INFORMED ME, VIA A MESSAGE THAT MY SECURITY SUITE(NIS2012) HAD BEEN REMOVED.

CHECKED MY SECURITY SUITE ,FOUND IT WORKING PROPERLY.

CHECKED THE LIST OF INSTALLED PROGRAMS IN SECUNIA ,WASN'T THERE.

RUN A SCAN,THEN IT DETECTED IT,AND PUT IT BACK ON THE LIST OF INSTALLED

PROGRAMS.

HEAVENS!

3.EVERY TIME I COME TO THIS SITE,MY LAPTOP FREEZES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS,

DOESN'T DO IT ON ANY OTHER SITE!

4.WRITING IN SMALL CASE HERE,TURNS LETTERS INTO NUMBERS.

WHAT DO I DO PLEASE?

THANK YOU.

As a user of NIS 2012 I can answer part of your query. Norton have Upgraded their search engine which requires a reboot.

I do not allow auto programme updating so I am unsure how/if U were notified a reboot was necessary.

PSI just changes your status until the reboot procedure has been completed for correct registration.

I'M AFRAID YOU TOTALLY MISUNDERSTOOD WHAT I WROTE.

1.I DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT A REBOOT NOTIFICATION.

I WAS NOTIFIED BY SECUNIA THAT THE NIS2012 PROGRAM WAS REMOVED ,

WHEN IN FACT IT WASN'T.(WHICH OF COURSE GAVE ME A SCARE,AS I HAD NOT DONE ANY SUCH THING)

THAT'S WHAT I WROTE.

THANK YOU.

I'M AFRAID I DON'T FOLLOW YOUR ARGUMENT.

I WAS NOTIFIED BY SECUNIA THAT THE NIS2012 HAD BEEN UNINSTALLED,,

AS SOON AS MY DESKTOP APPEARED.

I HAD NOT UPDATED THE NIS2012,IN FACT HAD NOT DONE ANYTHING AT ALL

AT THAT TIME.

HOPEFULLY NOW YOU UNDERSTAND.

THANK YOU.

Of course I understand.

U have got Norton 2012 installed & clearly allow Symantec to update YOUR PROGRAMME as well as your viral definitions automatically. There was a programme update today that required a reboot.

During that procedure PSI will quite rightly deregister the old programme because Symantec remove key programme meta data that PSI reads to ascertain what & where programmes are installed.

Once the new updated/upgraded meta data is re-registered with PSI it will once again show in the Scan Results page.

That is normal PSI procedure which clearly U do not understand.

If U want more control over what is happening to your PC U should prevent Symantec from auto updating the programme as follows:

Open NIS>Settings>Updates>Automatic Download Of New Version can be set to OFF.

For your own protection Auto Live Update - Pulse Update & Smart Definitions should be left on.

Checking for a new version to properly control the install is easy. Right click the task Tray icon>Check for New Version.

EDIT:
If U are fully up to date & correctly re-registered with PSI your version number should be 19.5.0.145 which matches the actual programme at: Open NIS>Support>About>Version Number

OK SINCE YOUR ANSWERS WERE SHORT,

AND NOT DETAILED,

YOU VERY MUCH GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION,

THAT YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND ,

WHAT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE CLEAR.

1. MY NIS 2012 IS NOT SET TO 'AUTOMATIC DOWNLOAD OF NEW VERSION'.

AND SINCE THE ABOVE MENTIONED PROBLEM HAPPENED BEFORE,

I UPDATED THE NIS 2012, AS I DO EVERY MORNING

I COULD NOT POSSIBLY THINK THAT AS THE REASON.

ALL THE SAME,NO POINT HARPING ON IT.

Re: NIS12
Open NIS>Settings>Updates>Automatic Download Of New Version can be set to OFF.
Checking for a new version to properly control the install is easy. Right click the task Tray icon>Check for New Version.
Both of these options for New Version point to new calender year version Upgrade ~ ie: 2012 to 2013
They do not control in calender year version # patch/inline release updates ... ie: 19.2.x to 19.5.x
I have Automatic Download Of New Version set to OFF. 19.2 updated to 19.5 via Live Update with prompts to restart.
Automatic Download Of New Version and Check for New Version refer to calender year version Upgrades.
Not in-calender year patch/inline release version updates.
Respectfully submitted

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT,bjm

MY NIS2012 IS ALREADY SET TO ' NOT AUTO DOWNLOAD NEW VERSION '.

THE ONLY PROBLEMS I HAVE ARE WITH SECUNIA ,

NOT WITH THE NIS2012.

I'M AN EXPERIENCED PC USER,

NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH SECUNIA BEFORE,

JUST RECENTLY........OH WELL!

THANK YOU ANYWAY.

Can't offer anything with regard to NIS....but you did mention screen freeze when visiting site.
Have you tried running CHKDSK.....it does sometimes rectify diverse errors....orphaned /unindexed files so on and so forth. I find defragging most days helps. The Secunia program files are always in the top ten for heavily fragmented.
Just a couple of suggestions which I hope aren't an affront to your experience; which may improve things........regards,

It's just that you're the only one reporting the problems at the moment....that seems to suggest the issue is with your pc. Have you got the option to do a Boot-time defrag with your software ? I tend to do one a week, and a manual defrag....I never get any trouble with a freeze up; and I do quite a lot with the forum. I can give you the link to it if you wish....lots of other optimizing features and free for personal use. It's already monitored by psi....a little treasure as far as I'm concerned !

HI AGAIN moos,

I have SINCE DISCOVERED that

1. The jumble of letters and numbers I get when I use small case letters here

MAINLY happens, when I type the letter I .(And that only happens on THIS SITE.)

So now whenever an I IS not IN a word,I can use small case.( I THINK)

2.My page only freezes when I access THIS SITE through SECUNIA (my program).

IF I access THIS SITE through the NOTIFICATION LINKS I get,(through my EMAIL
address,no FREEZING occurs.
I do NOT have any freeze of page problems on any other SITE,

and I do VISIT several often.

So IF the ISSUE were to be WITH my pc,,

why doesn't IT happen elsewhere?

IN any case my laptop IS well MAINTAINED, always has been,so I don't know......

LISTEN thank you very much INDEED for your effort to help,

however as IT IS I don't access THIS SITE often so never MIND.

You can IF you WISH send me the LINK you MENTIONED ,I'LL be happy to have a look at IT.

I APPRECIATE your effort.

Regards.

@istanbul 2 Hi again.
As I mentioned before....using the prog....link to as follows....Secunia program files always show as heavily fragmented, on my set-up. It might explain why you get the freeze up when accessing this site from there and nowhere else.

Lots of info here :-

See the free version here :-
