Thanks, I did that and I did get it installed on Firefox, however I still can't get it installed on IE. When I click to install it, it says something about the gold info bar at the top of the page that needs to be clicked to let the active X install. Well there is no gold bar appearing to click. So some of my settings must not be right. Any suggestions? Janice |

Thanks, Maurice, this did the trick and both IE and Firefox both have Adobe Flash Player installed. So next time when there is an update in flash player, should I uninstall the old one with the adobe flash player uninstaller, first before updating? Janice |

Maurice............ many thanks to you for solving my problem as is described in the previous posts. I too, did not realise that one has to uninstall Flashplayer by using its own uninstaller. However, needless to say I have 'saved' all the relevant links that you suggested for any possible future reference. My thanks again for your help. WideWall O/S Vista Home Premium SP1 32bit. |

The current Flash Player installer does remove the old version, but not if it has been cloned by a program into a nonstandard location. For these instances, I find that Revo Uninstaller does the trick. Often, nothing special is needed if you download and run the current stand-alone installer from Adobe. The current Flash Player version is something like dot-22.xxx, not dot-12.xxx. And in IE7 or IE8, the best way to allow Adobe to download Active X controls is to list the site in your Trusted Zone under Internet Options. Leave the Internet Zone as Active X free as possible. -- -- Bob -- |

I have updated my advice on Flash. They do now include an uninstaller (of sorts) within the new Flash download. It remains imperfect in that it does not trawl the user PC & warn them to switch off programmes using Flash prior to a new install which can result in "in use" ocx files not being removed. Until they perfect this, like so many other vendors have done,I believe my latest advice remains valid. UPDATING ADOBE FLASH ==================== Adobe have not fully mastered(unlike many other vendors) the art of stopping elements of a programme (Flash in this instance) from working prior to an install of a new version. The result is that an "in use" flash ocx file will not be uninstalled. Nor, have they widely publicised the fact that they do not support removal of older versions by using Control Panel>Add/Remove or other 3rd party uninstallers. Advanced users just need to install the new version(s),then find the old OCX file & zap it. Others may wish to take a longer route to successfully remove a vulnerability from Adobe Flash you should: 1. Download & use the Flash Uninstaller from here: #####Before actually running the uninstaller it is a good idea to close all browsers,PSI and any other programme U think may be using Flash ##### http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html 2. Reboot to clear out any left over ocx files. 3. Rescan using PSI - if there are any insecure Flash elements left what is the path to them? U should not proceed to stage 4 until all U clear any problems found.(The PSI overview page may look a little odd because it uses Flash for the pictorials) Note: At this stage,if PSI finds any elements of Flash in the C:\i386 folder or on any drive other than C that is an OEM reinstallation partition (normally D drive) or a drive U use solely to backup your work U can safely create an ignore rule. It may also be in the Recycle Bin. 4. Reinstall the latest Internet Explorer Flash Player from here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/ (I strongly advise U not to select the Beta version unless an advanced user). The latest stable & secure version is: 10.0.42.34 4A.If U are also using Firefox, Opera and other Gecko-based browsers U need this link as well: http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_fire... (Again, I strongly advise U select the stable & secure version: 10.0.42.34) Security. Adobe also have a very bad habit of changing your Flash settings each time they plug vulnerabilities. To change the security settings to your liking & regain control of your PC click here: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en... Bloat ware. If you used the Adobe site, rather than FileHippo to update you will also find they try or have installed an unnecessary Download Manager. It is bloat ware by a third party Company called NOS. If found I would uninstall it via Add/Remove. 09:30 03/01/2010 -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE9 16GB RAM |

I have Windows XP with IE. My Adobe Flash Player 10 is broken. I use the removal tool that Adobe supplies and that now sits on my desktop. I shut down everything that I can think of, including windows explorer, the internet connection, and Norton before I run the removal tool. I look at the details of the installation to make sure that nothing says "delete on reboot"; if it does, I reboot. I then run the installation tool in the same way from my desktop, but when I try to view a video it says that I need to install Adobe Flash Player version 10. According to the add/remove-programs portion of my control panel, the Flash Player is installed, but it isn't recognized when I try to use it. When instead I follow the Adobe troubleshoot script, I go to the line "If you are still having problems, click here to download." I click as instructed, and when it gets to installation it says "Adobe Flash Player 10 has been loaded before. Reload it?" This makes me think that some file did not get removed by the uninstaller, but I can't figure out what it is. When Adobe offers the Flash Player for download, it tries to give me some free time with Macafee, but I always uncheck that box before proceeding. Could that be a problem? Any ideas? Thanks, Cory |
