Hey Everybody,

Secunia is always striving to improve. For this reason, we have made an effort to simplify the FAQ and make it more available and easy to use.

As you can see, much of the content of the old FAQ has been removed, and the steps to troubleshoot the PSI have been simplified.

Everything that's been taken out was removed on the assumption that it is rarely or never used.

If you have any comments or requests for inclusion of new information, please post back to this thread and we will consider your concerns.

The FAQ can be found here: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Hello Emil ,

The road to hell is paved with good intentions ; basing the FAQ's on 3.0 (Beta) is a disaster at this time of it's less than perfect development and new users needing to roll back , as in update , to version2.0.0.x (or even 1.5.0.2) .

I will be unable to give XP users the help required :eg: the specific workarounds for the problem of a one sec splash screen and no subsequent "internet connection" or will need large quantitries of brain effort for memory , sezarch and typing . Not an option :((((((((((

I don't know what you guys are on , but don't send me any .

I despair !!

Anthony

Hi,

Although the FAQ is mostly based on PSI 3.0, most of the actual troubleshooting steps should be version-agnostic.

Is the XP problem still frequently occuring? If so, I can add the workaround back to the FAQ, no problem.

If you think that any specific problems should still be mentioned in the FAQ, by all means just notify me.

This time around, my main effort wasn't focusing the FAQ on PSI 3.0, but rather simplifying it so it would be easier to read and use.

The focus on PSI 3.0 is more of a side effect and shouldn't disrupt 2.x or even 1.x users reading it.

If you disagree, please point out the problematic passages and I will correct them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Emil ,

I am rather busy atm and do not have the "real" FAQ's to compare ; but for example where is there any reference to providing a "Trouble Shoot Report" when posting , either on the website or in the FAQ's , and how to go about it .

Maurice Joyce has his own script and is differently organised than I .

Whatever , such a report is crucial to this Forum and it's "non-availabilty" in 3.0 Beta has already become obvious as "critical" to volunteer helper input until Secunia silent updaters are perfected . Look here :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/122...

and maybe :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/122...

or even :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/122...

Hopefully , others will "remeber" the other essential missing bits .

EDIT: The XP problem occured in the last month , if memory serves .

Take care

Anthony

Profiling & Registration is a constant (particularly dual PC use with same log on & profile recovery) issues are not currently covered.

Use of proxies also pops up now & again which may be worth a mention somewhere.

Perhaps make the fact that ALPHA(Includes Google Canary/Developer & Mozilla Aurora) or BETA versions are not catered for. This fact,to me, remains unclear.

Anthony

U will need to stop being your original self & join the Secunia Helper Piracy Club. They copy my scripts verbatim without even a mention of the originator!!!!!

Thanks for your kind offer , Maurice . I shall not join the club but instead set up my own band and start stealing your work immediately . Consider yourself thanked from now to the end of time or PSI 2.0.0.x as we know it .

This does not erase my complaint , Emil . We seemed to have a growing number of posters using the TBS without being prompted .

Dumbing down (inclucing FAQ's) without any effort to help educate (the less technically gifted , in this case) smacks of arrogance and contempt ; believe me , I speak from experience .

Take care

Anthony

Hi,

The FAQ has been updated again, and some sections have been expanded and others simplified.

This process has taken your feedback into consideration.

Please refer to the new FAQ, found at:

Thank you.

I have noted a couple of typo's & have other items that could be included or made clearer.

I will forward the whole FAQ as a Word document with the corrections & suggestions for your consideration.

Anthony

I will send U a copy of my submission so that we do not overlap.

Sadly, genuine submissions created on this Forum are getting "lost" amongst the sustained spammer attack posts being created.

I have grouped this post & others where Forum members have open questions & comments which should make it easier for Forum readers & helpers to navigate.
