Hello,

could someone please tell me the difference between Adobe Flash Player (11.x) and Adobe Flash Player (ActiveX) (10.x) and why I cannot find the last one on www.adobe.com?

Thanks in advance,

Anselm

As far as I know Flash 10 for Windows is End of Life - Adobe & many third party scaper updaters like CNet,Softronic & Filehippo now only offer the latest version which is currently 11.1.102.63.

Are U referring to this page at Adobe? http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

As I am sure U are aware (ActiveX) indicates that the install is for users of browsers using the Trident rendering engine.

The link I gave U above does not include the wording (ActiveX) but that does not matter because it states precisely which version U are downloading in the drop down boxes ie:

Other Browsers (Google/Firefox/Safari & others) = Gecko rendering engine
Internet Explorer (& others) = Trident engine.

Adobe should only install the version/type of Flash Player U require for the browsers installed whatever auto link U use.

Does that help?

The release notes for the versions of Flash Player can be found here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flas...
These will tell you the changes introduced in Flash Player 11.
There is a summary here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/w...

If you really want a patched version of Flash Player 10, you can find it here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-fl...

I don't know any reason not to update to Flash Player 11 on Windows 7.

Thanks for your replies. Please excuse that I didn't tell the reason of my question. I am just moving from an old PC with Windows XP no a new one with Windows 7. On the old one secunia PSI only shows Adobe Flash Player 11.x. On the new one PSI shows Adobe Flash Player 11.x and Adobe Flash Player 10.x (ActiveX). PSI detects version 10.1.82.76 and requires 10.183.16. Now I wonder how the Flash Player 10.x (ActiveX) came to my new PC. The control panel shows Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin 64-bit. Do you expect problems if I uninstall player version 10.x and install 11.x?

Many thanks,

Anselm

No - Windows does not require Flash. It is just a browser add on.

Uninstall & install them as U like.

The Flash Player 10 was probably preinstalled on your new computer.

You need to go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ with Internet Explorer and download the latest version (after unchecking any additional software Adobe tries to add).

You obviously have other browsers as well as Internet Explorer. This requires the two Flash Player downloads - the ActiveX for Internet Explorer and the plugin for Firefox, Safari or Opera.

There is an outstanding 'issue' with PSI automatically updating Flash Player when both are installed. Only the plugin is updated and the ActiveX is treated as a 'zombie'. This means you have to update the ActiveX yourself.
