Hey guys.

I've been thinking for a while. We've all seen Secunia's choice in direction some may have noted that overall quality has been declining.

And you know... A lot of us here would like some more features of the sort Secunia are not likely to implement. Some good examples of things that are possible, but that Secunia are not interested in implementing, would be customizable silent install packages as well as "unpatched" warnings for all programs on the system. I, for one, and not so much a fan of secunia tampering with programs before installing them on our systems. And it seems that psi 3 does not even allow you to disable silent installs?

Has anyone else thought that it may be time to replace Secunia? Are there are current alternatives? What exactly makes the psi so hard to replace, and what makes it better than things like filehippo?

We have recently changed some internal processes and procedures in order to improve our responsiveness to new software, secure rules, and SPS packages.

We are on the right track with these changes and improvements should be visible already.

These are interesting suggestions.

Customisable updates are already available for the Secunia CSI. Given that the Secunia PSI is for standalone systems we don't see much benefit in offering this for Secunia PSI at this point.

Warnings about insecure programs, which aren't patchable, is an interesting feature, but it is also one which we do not believe that very many PSI users would appreciate, in fact, many may be annoyed to get information about programs which need to be uninstalled to get a 100% score.

The ability to disable silent installs is one which may be implemented in an upcoming beta releases.

We wrap installers in SPS to ensure that we can suppress dialog boxes and monitor whether an install is successful. This is naturally only done in cases where vendors do not provide proper installers that support silent installs (and do not include tool bars and other unwanted add-ons).

Hello Morten ,

You might want to take a look at the current state of the3Beta2 and a serios SPS problem I provoked and posted about here :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/124...

Still waiting for some Secunia input .

This comment/answer :-

"Warnings about insecure programs, which aren't patchable, is an interesting feature, but it is also one which we do not believe that very many PSI users would appreciate, in fact, many may be annoyed to get information about programs which need to be uninstalled to get a 100% score."

is different to previous ones :ie: commercial reasons ; you should look back at the at mail generated when "Secure Browsing" was not to be included in version 2.0.x to see whether the ALL programme warnings are wanted or not !!

Take care

Anthony
