Hello
PSI has detected the following insecure programs on my PC (Windows XP Home):
- Java Web Start 5.x (5.0.150.4)
- Sun Java JRE 1.5.x/5.x (5.0.150.4)
These Java versions were obviously loaded onto my computer when I was installing an new application.
I am not able to "locate" the specific updates on the Java Download Site which would solve the insecurity problems.
On the other hand the latest Java Version Java (TM) 6 Update 11 is already installed on my PC.
Can anybody help me to solve the problem?
Thanks and regards
Klaus

I have a similar problem in not being able to identify the various Java replacements.
Is there something we are missing?

There is a very interesting thread on this subject here:
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/776...
I carry out the action outlined below each time I update JAVA - works for me.
Eliminating older versions of JAVA or JRE from your system.
Download the latest Java from here:
http://www.java.com/en/
The next programme will remove all old versions except the one U have just downloaded.
http://raproducts.org/
*This link takes U to the site - select the Windows Binary (zip) option.
*This will lead U to Sourceforge.net to download it.
*Save the download to desktop.
*Activate the desktop zip icon which exposes the JAVARA EXE file. Click it
*Select RUN when asked.
*Select your language.
*The tool will now appear on the desktop - select REMOVE OLDER VERSIONS
*Once complete select ADDITIONAL TASKS - tick all boxes & activate.
This should have completely removed all old versions. To verify this fact
* Go to control panel>add/remove - you should see JAVA(TM)6 Update 11 - there should be NO other references to JAVA or JRE
* Rerun Secunia - U should get a clean bill of health.
* Right click on the desktop JAVARA zip file & delete it.

Hey,
Your solution didn't work i think, but i deleted the program manually, by opening the folder and delete that single file.
And PSI does not complain anymore.
BUT, is it the right way to do it? or should i delete the entire folder?

Very surprised JAVARA appears not to have worked.
Provided Secunia is not showing an insecurity and U have removed all JAVA (TM) & JRE programmes via Add/remove LESS JAVA(TM)6 UPDATE 12 U should be OK.

I have had a lot of success with two items:
(1) The Java Control Panel, from which I made a Shortcut on my desktop. It has a Check For Updates button under the Updates tab.
(2) To track down old Java instances wherever they may be, I have had success with Revo Uninstaller. It is free for personal use, and can find Java in nonstandard locations, as well as older versions which are not completely removed.

To:courage o.k. it is fine that's what I did.(sort of just go to add/remove). Then all you have to do is download the newest version which is 6 update.12 from java.com. Easyist way I found. Curious though when I went to the Java panel itself it said that update 11 was current for my system. Knew better because of Secunia |
