---START--- Program Name: Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Security State: Insecure Download Link: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate Instances Found: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE, version: 12.0.6557.5000 Last System Scan (localtime): 11. Jun 2012, 21:37 Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 7 ---END--- This program was detected as Insecure, it is strongly recommended that you apply the latest security patch from the vendor of the program. The version detected of Microsoft Office Excel 2007 was 12.0.6557.5000 while the latest version including one or more security fixes is 12.0.6661.5000. BUT MS UPDATE SAYS MY SYSTEM IS FULLY UP TO DATE. I asked Secunia to rescan but it still tells me I have an unpathced progam. The Secunia product page tells me nothing, The MS Advisory it points to links to a microsoft advisory, but if i try to run the files it links to, they tell me they cannot scan my system. The Secunia link to the MS product page takes me to Office 2010, whereas I have 2007. So what is going on? -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |

Despite what Windows Update states I suspect the update has not installed correctly. Try a manual install from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.as... Reboot then run a full PSI scan. Hopefully that will fix it. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Thanks for trying Maurice. That just gives the licence I have to accept, then a pop up message saying "An error occurred while running detection". That is what I got from all of the downloads I tried. -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |

I suspect U have a Service Pack missing. Please open Excel>Click the large orb (top right)>from the drop down box select EXCEL OPTIONS>now select RESOURCES> U will see this: https://public.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pJcCktrBPhz... Click ABOUT. Can U tell me exactly what wording U have where I have highlighted in green. Are the details highlighted in yellow present? Now I have looked through my windows update history, and I have quite a lot of updates that show "Failed" many times before they worked. On 7 April after a lot of failures, the MS Office Suite SP3 shows as "Successful". From what I recall i did it by going into safe mode. -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |

It is not registered as having SP3 installed. U should try a reinstall from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.as... EDIT: Please note these steps are the Microsoft recommended method to install the SP "Install The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 3 (SP3). To do this, follow these steps: 1.Download the .exe file by clicking on the Download button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive. 2.It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running. 3.In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen." -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Hi Maurice Thanks again. i am struggling here. The message it gives me after accepting the conditions and running its check of installed updates is: "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted database". I have tried repairing Office, but that does not complete. I have tried editing the registry per http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/forums/microsoft-... Re: Office Patch Error To resolve the "the detection failed this can be due to a corrupted installation database" error that I was getting when trying to reinstall office 2007 sp1, or install kb950113, kb950114 (or even kb 946691) on an XP sp3 pc with office 2007 installed, I simply renamed this regkey: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\0000210903000 0000000000000F01FEC\Patches To: 'patches_old' - the installers then ran with no errors, and a new ‘Patches’ regkey was auto created. For the record, windows update had said no updates were needed - it was secunia’s psi which told me word and publisher 2007 needed patching... My key was 00002119E20000000000000000F01FEC for Office Ultimate (theirs was Office Enterprise) -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |

I hadn't, but now have. On my laptop where the problem is, it failed on first attempt, exactly the same as doing it from the Programs and Features route. It offered to try again in compatibility mode, but that is the same. It gets just over alf way on the progress bar, then just jumps the rest of the way and says "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 configuration did not complete successfully". On my other PC, it works perfectly either way; that did update anyway, and already shows as SP3. One of the other threads I saw talked about uninstalling and running something to remove all traces, then reinstalling. Is there some other way that does not lose all of my settings? -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |

U will certain lose your Outlook settings unless exported first. I will try & find a bit more for U. Could take a while - I need to hook up remotely to the person I gave my 2007 disk & licence to after purchasing 2010. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

I have taken a look at an install of Office 2007 Home & Business & confirmed that like 2010 it does not have a general settings backup like Office 2003 in Office tools. These may be of interest & help. 1. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Windows Easy Transfer I have not used this tool so I am unsure whether it backs up all the various settings created within Microsoft Office. 2. Microsoft Outlook - As I am sure U are aware U can export/import the main data via the programme at: File>Open>Import - I have used the pst option which worked well. To save your Rules & Alerts U need to click the Home Tab in the program>Rules>Manage Rules & Alerts>Email Rules - in this tab U will see Options>click that to expose Export Rules. 3. U may wish to consider these: http://www.settingsbackup.com/ I have not used or tested this programme & it is a bit pricey unless U have lots of customisation with programmes other than Outlook http://www.backupoutlook.com/default.aspx?source=n... I do use this programme - works like a dream & well worth the money to keep all the details/settings of Outlook accounts in order 4. Perhaps Microsoft can assist via the help option within the programme. That could save U further hassle in trying to find why the conventional repair options do not work. Hope this helps. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Thanks for all of your efforts. Luckily, the laptop on which I have the problem is not where I use my outlook, that is on my desktop which has updated properly. Sounds like an uninstall and reinstall. -- W7Professional & Home Premium. Office 2007 Ultimate. |
