I received an email message telling me that the final version of PSI (3) is now available.

I have version 2 installed which I run when convenient.

Is the upgrade, ver 3, a lot better than ver 2, has more features, is more efficinet, etc.

Any disadvantages over ver 2

Thanks

At the moment the opinions are still very much divided. 3.0 certainly has a number of enhancements, but it also seems to have lost significant functionality. I'd suggest you wait for a possible 3.1?

I have reinstalled version 2... for some reason almost all the useful information has been hidden in version 3, with no apparent way of displaying it again. For instance, even such important things as the version number and the location of the existing files can no longer be seen.

Also, instead of an easily-read list of items, there are simply pages of icons. Yuckkk!

Version 3.0 has an automatic gearbox. Version 2 had a manual one.

Of course can you see the installation path of a program. Right click on a program > details...

The new version 3 is puristic but has everything you need. I don't like the little icon in the tray or more exact I liked the old icon very much (transparent background and the icon colour who indicates the status.

But anyway, PSI does what it's supposed to do. So what? :) Thank you, programmers!!!!

Flash player update failed for me and the only option with PSI3 is to report the problem to CS. There are no options to manually update. PSI3 has been dumbed down so much that it's mostly useless IMHO.

I'm returning to PSI2.

In fact, since my previous comment I've located most of the sought after V 2.0 characteristics in V 3.0. So, as far as I'm concerned: at the moment I'm not inclined to go back.

That's true. I also miss the links for direct downloads, if the secunia update fails.

So, are you keeping this to yourself? If you've found solutions, please present them instead of cryptic statements that help no one.

Sorry, I only wanted to reset my earlier verdict somewhat.

In my case the main issue was the incidence of several versions of individual applications. They can be made visible by right clicking on the application icon in the list. I'm glad the misleading references to "zombie installations" have disappeared.

Cheers!

Yes but it also has fluffy dice and go-faster stripes.

Where did you find older versions? By right clicking > details I only get the installation path, nothing else.

Version 2.0.0.4003 (Supported) http://secunia.com/PSI2Setup.exe

Edit: Not sure if this was what you meant.

No, I thought he's talking about older versions of programs and applications. That's missing.

Before PSI 3 you had direct downloadlinks and a lot of useful stuff like direct links to add/remove programs, the forum, product pages etc. You could rescan only that program. With version 3 you have to scan the whole pc. So yes, I miss the toolbox, the online references and...

... what about the auto-update settings? How does that work now?

When I say I miss this and that, it doesn't mean, that I'm not able to use version 3. It's just, you now, I worked hard to be able to use the "advanced" modus (some call it "expert" modus) and in the same time I've learned a lot, also thanks to the comunity. And now, this modus has gone. Is that bad? Is it bad to simplify a program and make it more accessible to "normal" users, who aren't as dedicated like many geeks here?

No, it's a good thing. But simplify the usability also means that the user looses a part of control. I hope that Secunia may assume this responsibility.

Just a note to thank you all for responding to my original post.

I think I'll keep version 2 for the time being.

I scan when it is convenient, that is manually, because I find that with 1MB of memory I can do nothing else (without significant delays) when secunia is running.

As a matter of interest, is version 3 more or less demanding upon system memory.

Best wishes.
