Why is the Java JRE version 6 update 12 not considered a patch by secunia? it has been available from the sun website since 02/02/09. Should we not download it?

The JAVA changelog says it is bug fix only.
Details are here about Secunia & bug fixes.
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...
No mention of what the bug is so I installed today to prevent a possible future error message.

My Java Control Panel Updater won't even update to this version yet. I think it's still beta. Anyway, Update 11 is not insecure. Not exploits yet.

I have Java 6 / 11 - but Secunia is telling me to uninstall the old version. I had MAJOR problems with Java a cpl days ago and have only just got it back running. The program did not appear in the Add/Remove program though was clearly installed. CCleaner did not find it. I ran JavaRa but I was still being told that the program was installed. In the end it involved manually deleting all Java folders and the registry tree.
The message is telling to to look to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\java.exe. I am loath to start messing around again but would like to resolve any insecurities
Thanks

Having the same issue. Secunia keeps telling me to update Java but I already have Java SE Update 11. Here is what Sun says,
"Bug Fixes
This feature release does not contain any new fixes for security vulnerabilities to its previous release, Java SE 6 Update 11. Users who have Java SE 6 Update 11 have the latest security fixes and do not need to upgrade to this release to be current on security fixes."
If this is the case why does Secunia keep insisting that we update?

Because there are old bits of Java in the system as with Google Gears. We just need to make sure we delete the .dll's we don't need. Help? |

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_fr... This is the only way to go,if you are having problems with incomplete and partial uninstalls. Worked great for me, a couple of days ago and it is now on all my p.c.'s.I got the notification from secunia on my laptop but not on my desk. What I did was removed the java from pc add/remove and went to the official java site and down loaded from there. Worked great.
I learned of the revo-unintaller later from this forum

@puget1 I agree 100% with you about Revouninstaller. CCleaner is good but Revo is better. I think the last time I fiddled with Java I went to official site & downloaded 6.0.120.4, saved it to desktop, ran Revouninstaller, rebooted, installed the download, scanned w/ PSI (Advanced mode) no problems 100%. Like you say Revo the only way to go to clear out registry, files, etc.

As I stated in my earlier post I only have 1 java installed now and it is ver6 update 11. I tried Revo and it only found one instance of Java. Secunia keeps telling me to update java to update 11 even though I already have. |

I believe U still have remnants of an old version somewhere on your PC.
This should help U find it.
To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, please follow there guidelines using the
ADVANCED interface:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
* Click on the + sign of the programme to “expand’ it.
* Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file.
* Remember the installation path and close down the menu.
* Click Open Folder and locate the detected file.

Just do what is advised
by Maurice Joyce on 13th Mar, 2009 22:58. What he is telling you is that a third party install is using that version and until it updates to the new you are stuck!!!. The best suggestion is to make an exception rule and go on. It is the easiest and it will clear secunia so you have a 100%. This is my understanding of why we update to newer version1. Obvious, it secures the program from hackers.2. in most instances the file is improved and is smaller thus making space and quicker responding. Granted, sometimes it doesn't work that way and can make headaches.
Hi!!Bob_Primak surprised to see you here. Agree 11 is probably good enough.
A trick: go to www.filehippo.com and download their free standing update checker and utilize their link to updates.
So Bob here is some interesting ifo on a old forum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941179http: //support.microsoft.com/kb/941179 |
