HSBC recently sold off over 100 upstate New York Branches to First Niagara Bank. First Niagara recommends all the right things in their guidelines for internet security including getting patches/updates for software, using a dedicated computer (no browsing or email) for business transactions), etc. but on their Q & A page they have the following: "Which browsers are supported by First Niagara Online Banking? You can access Online Banking using any of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 8, 7, 6 Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Safari 4, 3" Please comment on this situation. I want expert opinions to include in a letter to management. How vulnerable is web banking at First Niagara given the above? Best regards, The Big Guy -- Jonathan |

I suspect they don't update their FAQs very often. Given the Mozilla Rapid Release naming policy, they would have to do so every six weeks. All the Internet Explorer versions mentioned are still supported by Microsoft. Support for Firefox 3.6 ended on 24 April 2012. Does the site refuse to work for browsers that are not in the list? -- This answer is provided “as-is.” You bear the risk of using it. |

Tech support suggests that Quicken Updater will only work with the older versions of IE, Safari and Firefox. That is not my experience. The Quicken Update function does not work with IE8. Thanks for your reply. -- Jonathan |
