This icon [updating google chrome 18.x] has been stuck on the program for weeks, even though I am using version 21.0.1180.79 which is the most recent version as of today. I suppose it is more annoying than anything else, unless it reveals some vulnerability. |

Check the path of the file PSI is trying to update. Could be an older version of Google as explained in the FAQ. Extract here: I have updated one of my programs, but an older version is still detected by the Secunia PSI. What can I do? Some programs leave behind the older version when updating to a new one. Some vendors do this deliberatively by policy, and some vendors by mistake. An example of a vendor deliberatively leaving behind the old version is Google, who do not remove old versions when installing updates for Google Chrome. This is an intentional policy on Google's behalf, and is done to prevent developers using Chrome from losing any of their work. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

OK, thanks for that info. In my case, the supposed out of date version is here: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\L The current version of Google Chrome is here: C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Applica So, can I delete the Google directory in the windows/system32 folder? I am not a developer or anything like that. If I tell PSI to ignore this program, will it ignore all Chrome programs, or just this path? |

I would get rid of it. Navigate back to C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\L ocal\Google\Chrome\Application\18.0.1025.142 right click & delete. A full PSI rescan & all will be in order. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Thanks, that worked. Is there any program that helps find things like that which could be deleted? And ought I assume there are registry entries associated with old programs like that? |

There could well be a few "bits * bobs" of left over files in the registry. My view is that the "urge to purge" should be avoided unless something is causing grief which leads to a registry entry malfunction. PSI will find any vulnerability for U & report by giving U the path to the problem which has just been demonstrated. There are alleged registry cleaners (they do not find vulnerabilities) - Details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registry_cleaner Examples (there are hundreds of them) of this type of programme are here: http://www.registrycleaners.com/ Hopefully this has answered your questions. Please note I am not endorsing or promoting the use of a registry cleaner merely answering your question. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |
