I have recently done an in place upgrade of my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 Pro.
Secunia PSI seems to work ok after the upgrade, but for one thing:

It wants to update Adobe Flash Player 11.x (ActiveX) (64bit) from the installed version 11.3.372.94 (ActiveX) to 11.4.402.265 (ActiveX).

But the Status is stuck on "Updating". This never goes away. I have restarted the computer and it makes no difference.

If I try to manually install the latest Flash, the installer states that the latest version is already installed.

The status of Secunia PSI was 100% before the upgrade to Windows 8.

What should I do to resolve this?

In Windows Explorer navigate to:

C:\Windows>SysWOW64>Macromed>Flash - click on Flash & in the right hand pane you should see the file

11.3.372.94 (ActiveX)

Right click & delete it.

A full PSI rescan should eliminate the issue.

Please be aware that Secunia do not support Windows 8.

That directory looks like this:

c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 92EA-46BD

Flash.ocx has version 11.3.372.94, is it that file that I should delete?

Yes - there looks to be a good bit of dross in there.

You may wish to consider a complete clear out as follows:

UPDATING THE STANDALONE ADOBE FLASH PLAYER

1. Download & SAVE these to desktop.

IE & Other Browsers using the Trident Rendering Engine.

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/curren...

& then here, if U have any other type of browser that does not have Flash embedded.

http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/curren...

2. The installer will appear on the desk top. THE IMPORTANT BIT - Before agreeing to install Flash check these programmes are completely shut down (use the Task Manager if necessary (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) to COMPLETELY EXIT these processes if running)):
a. All Browsers.
b. Windows Messenger.
c. Incredimail.
d. All Adobe Products.
e. PSI - Unless using version 2 or version 3
f. Microsoft Skype & Plus! For Skype

3. The new install will then remove all old files during the update process.

4. Complete a full PSI rescan & all should be in order.

Optional - Go to Start>Control Panel>click the Flash Player (32 Bit) icon>check the settings are to your requirements.

Update 20 12:08 26/08/2012

Unfortunately, when I run install_flash_player_ax_32bit.exe I get a dialog stating

Adobe(r) Flash(r) Player 11.2 Installer
The installation encountered errors.
The version of Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player that you are trying to
install is not the most current version. Please visit the Player
Download Center to obtain the latest, most secure version.
[Quit]

Clicking the Player Download Center link opens a page which ironically states "This content requires a newer version of the Flash Player. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player from the Windows Update site before continuing"

Thank you for responding so quickly! This is a lot better support than I get on many products I've payed a lot for.

I think you have two problems here.

1. PSI is not making allowances for Windows 8

2. The Flash Player available to download is not for Windows 8 / Internet Explorer 10. My understanding is that Flash Player will be distributed with Internet Explorer 10 and updated by Windows Update in a similar way to Google Chrome. I've not seen anything about Flash Player with other browsers on Windows 8.
This is the last thing I saw from Adobe
