Hi ,

Secunia policy has always been NOT recommend downloading the PSI from "third party" sites ; however reliable or trustworthy they might be .

Until the last few hours , Maurice Joyce was offering links to "older" versions of the PSI in the signature in his posts . This was initiated due to thelack of clarity in the Secunia website for those seeking versions other than 3.0.x and particularly 2.0.0.3003. Secunia were/are aware of this display .

I do not believe a link to a third party site as posted in this thread is in any way an improvement to yesterday's method .

Take care

Anthony

Anthony,
There is a bit of history to this state of affairs. Basically he is a hi-jacker & as you correctly point out has not done his homework before posting to the Forum.

In essence he cloned my links onto his profile. Trouble was he not only forgot the common curtesy of crediting the originator but truncated a link. This refers:

https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/13...

and this:

https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/13...

As a result of this he altered his profile & deleted the hi-jacked information & then created this useless thread because he has no idea how to correct a truncated hyperlink he created.

https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/13...

All the information on that website he points to has been cloned from this one including my download links - I note he still has not got the credits right.

The end result is that Forum members have little exposure to the links & are required to "go round the house" to another site rather than a one click solution.

He also posts as SteveSecunia12.

The mind boggles!

Hi Maurice ,

Did see some of the history as I was concerned that he seemed to have also appropriated snodger's removal method (in his own words at least) for the Blastcln.exe as per your thread :-

https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/13...

even if he failed to ephasise removing/deleting the back up file first ; more truncation . However as everybody seemed to have had/wanted some input , I did not comment .

The Gladiator site (above) checks as pretty respectable even though the cloning and a lack of quotation/references makes strange reading (plus including your links , apparently) .

Whole pavements of good intentions !!

Take care

Anthony

"I do not believe a link to a third party site as posted in this thread is in any way an improvement to yesterday's method ."?

I'm not sure why there is so much trouble with PSI, but the lack of control over updating seems to be at the bottom of it. Whether or not Secunia endorses it or not, there are big problems with what it is doing NOW! No matter what I've tried, PSI seems to lock up and not recognize the programs that have already been updated, even after scanning. I have re installed twice, to no avail. PLEASE GIVE US BACK THE OLD PSI! Or at least some alternative like we have had in past versions! This one is, less politely, a POC. I may try to download the old versions above, but it seems like Secunia would like to IMPROVE, rather than UN-IMPROVE their versions.....and offer links themselves, rather than lose prestige and customers........Perhaps something like the older versions which had alternative choices of auto updating or not....
Thanks to all of you, including Steve, and let's not let professional jealousy get in the way of a greater good for those of us who need what PSI has been offering.....

I don't get what comes across as bickering between Expert and Handling Contributors above. If this is a thread that Secunia doesn't endorse because it links outside of their site... why not remove the post rather than comment that we shouldn't post this and explain some back story?

For what it's worth though, I think there should still be a link somewhere on the PSI page that redirects to an archive of older versions. If Secunia doesn't want to offer it any more, why are the downloads still hosted on site, albeit on somewhat hidden pages?

I will however never upgrade to v3 based on my evaluation of it. I will be certain to always have a copy of the v2 executable for future installations. If by chance it eventually becomes unusable because Secunia cuts off it's use, I will just stop being a Secunia user.

Yes, thank God for Steve's link! All of you guys have been lifesavers, but just finished downloading the 2. version, and everything is working again.....THANKS SO MUCH! If I hadn't had this link I would have been forever disclaiming the whole of PSI.......as the 3.2004 version was defeating itself, by from what I could gather, trying to download all the updates at once, thus effectively freezing itself!

Please publish this link for those of us who, by virtue perhaps of a slower connection, have had the latest version make our computer miserable.....Or at least keep this link up! BTW, for those who haven't looked, the links provided on the "other" site are simply links back to Secunia's older downloads. They are not provided as links but as addresses, which is exactly as it should be.....

There are 'official' Secunia links to most of the older versions here:

Ah ha, indeed you are correct. I retract that part of my statement. For some reason I didn't think to look in "System Requirements" when looking for older versions of the software.

Thanks again for clearing that up.
