I just installed PSI 3.0 on a Windows home premium 64 bit laptop. PSI indicates all programs are updated (100%), but the icon remains red and has not turned green. I reinstalled but no joy. Thoughts? |

Have you tried a full PSI rescan? You can also close the tray icon with a right click & then start the programme manually to see if that changes the colour. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

I assume by "it" that you mean you have tried both possible solutions? If that is the case I would leave this thread open for a few days. Well, I hit the rescan button... not sure what else to do. Then, yes, did close the icon and open it from the menu and rescanned. Also tried a couple differnt scenarios of uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling and rescanning. |

Still no joy and also the History section does not show anything. (maybe because it has not updated yet?) Any ideas? |

Try installing version 2 & see if that behaves any better. The download information is below my Signature Block. You can always reinstall version 3 later if you prefer that version. No that only happens if using version 1 - the icon should be green if all your programmes are secure & the score is 100%. Very strange. Try a full psi rescan - if that fails close the tray icon againwith a right click & manually start PSI. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

I tried both, no change. PSI indicates a 100% score but still shows a red icon. When I close the icon and start PSI from the menu, the icon appears in red. Is there a windows setting that might effect this? Maybe because it is a 64bi home version? Mayabe because it is a laptop? Anything? |

@slawson2000 With all the installing and uninstalling of programs we do. Here’s a PC tip you can try to fix the secunia icon to show green instead of red. How to clean up past notifications in windows xp & vista For Windows XP Windows XP – Click Start > Run > Regedit Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values. Open Task Manager, click Processes tab, click Explorer.exe, then click End Process. Still in Task Manager, click File, click New Task, type explorer, then click OK This will refresh the system tray and load current icons. For Vista Click Start > Run > Regedit Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values. Open Task Manager, click Processes tab, click Explorer.exe, then click End Process. Still in Task Manager, click File, click New Task, type explorer, then click OK This will refresh the system tray and load current icons. If you have window 7 installed. I recommend asking Maurice Joyce for that registry key. After getting that registry key the rest of these steps should still apply. Regards, Steve |

@slawson2000 I thougth typing explorer as a new process does the same thing yes it does. But just to be sure. Reboot PC. When you completed the process of clearing the system tray of all past icons. and the system tray reloads all current installed icons. If the Secunia icon is still not green after rebooting your PC. Then I would contact secunia at support@secunia.com Steve |

A possible bug report has been created on this issue which affects a few members as can be seen here: https://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/13... As previously stated the "normal" cure has been: 1. A reinstallation. 2. An installation of a different variant of PSI. 3. Closing down the icon & then restarting PSI. 4. Self clearing whereby PSI mysteriously corrects itself. The other solutions you have been given are "no hopers". 1. The first solution is for removing past icons not fixing the present & can easily be used in XP by applying this simple "Fix It" rather that all the manual Registry work described. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283084 Windows 7 fix is here for those reading who have problems with old icons remaining in the Task Tray. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/clear-pa... I remain unsure what this rather misleading statement means "The problem is not with your system. this should've worked for you if it was". The solution does not meet the problem - this thread was dealing with a current icon misbehaving not a redundant one remaining in the tray requiring deletion. The Windows 7 Action Centre should inform you of possible OS issues. It does not cover all applications loaded on to Windows, one of which, may well be the cause of the problem. Once Secunia have enough log files they may well be able complete a comparison to pinpoint the root cause which may not be of their making. 2. Solution 2 was a good try "shot in the dark" & best left at that. If you have not already done so I would send your log file to Secunia Support. I will unsubscribe to protect my mail box. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

I would say that it is a bug being now that it is ocurring more than once. I read the other thread, but it is now locked. I am not sure where the "fix" will be posted if one is ever found. As for the "normal" cures you suggested: 1. Reinstalltion did not work. 2. Different variant did not work. 3. Restarting did not work. 4. Self clearing... it has not worked yet, but unforunatly this seems to be my only hope. As for the other two solutions, well they did not work either. I would be more than happy to send the logs to Secunia, if I knew how. I do not see any email addresses anywhere or nothing in the programs. I even tried to search how to send a log, but no avail. Now that Maurice has unsubscribed, maybe someone can answer that? |

Been there, done that. Tried it as an admin and as not. The last go around, I uninstalled 2.0. Went trough the registry and deteled any reference to Secunia. Deleted the folders pertaining to Secunia. Rebooted. I went to reinstall 3.0 (as this ia all the user really needs on this computer). Installed it as you described with a fresh download from the site. It did hang (or get caught in a loop) after it scanned and before it showed the success screen or program list. but is did say 100% up top. After about 30 min, I closed the program. and restarted it and it worked as before. Same issue. |

@slawson2000 The regedit option is a good choice. I always do a manual regedit after I uninstall any program. So I can have the cleanest re-install. That alone usually takes care of any possible glitches. Seeing that you've done that too and still no fix. Unfortunately I believe the possible bug that Maurice mentions effecting some users incudes your pc. Secunia PSI should still work for you properly. Dispite the icon showing red. If support@secunia.com can't help you any further. Then the only option left is to wait for an upgrade to version 3.0.4001 with this issue fixed. or some other work around. Sorry for all the trouble you've gone through. Sorry I could not help fix this issue for you. Best Regards, Steve. |

I have sent the computer off (it is a friends). Hopefully the next version will address the problem. I know the software is working, that is not the problem, I was just hoping the user could see that it was working by the change in icon color. Last question, will the new release auto update? I hope so. Thanks |

PSI will not automatically update itself unless it becomes vulnerable (highly unlikely) like any other programme on the database. The FAQ refers: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... PSI updates within versions for cosmetic/bug fix reasons are normally notified as follows: An update notification is posted to the Forum by Support. This update page will be updated with the new download link & (hopefully) an accurate change log so worth keeping an eye on it https://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/sys_req/ -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |

Thank for the info, but I am not sure what that first bit about the FAQ has to do with Secunia updating itself. As for the second bit, I am not sure what you mean. I know that is the most current version, and that is the one that is currently installed. I would hope it would update itself unless 3.0 just goes end-of-life and 4.0 comes out. |

No copy of PSI will update itself unless it suffers from a vulnerability. The FAQ is very clear. PSI is not a general updater programmer - it is a vulnerability checker/patcher. That includes PSI itself. -- Maurice Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit OS HP Intel Pentium i7 IE 10 for Windows 7 16GB RAM |
