this is quote from faq. the question wasn't answered, really. i have this problem:
psi on desktop, win7-64, tells me that xml 4.0 needs updating. i ran windows update. it says everything is up to date. (btw: i ran secunia on laptop, it also said that xml 4 needed updating. but when i clicked update it opened windows update, which then did confirm that xml 4 needed updating). on the desktop secunia update tried to download a file. did not open win update.

why the different behavior on desktop vs laptop?
and what about the conflict between secunia and win7 update?

thanks, i downloaded and installed msxml 4 as suggested. rescanned psi. psi then told me about 6 different msxml updates needed, one of which started a python update!, a different one started windows update. which asked for another msxml which i installed. the rest were unresponsive.

rescanned psi, it now asks for a msxml 6 update and python update but the update links are unresponsive. closed psi, restarted and rescanned. now it shows msxml as up to date.

still shows python as out of date, but this seems to be because python update installed in a different directory than where the scanned python.dll is located. i can fix that.

so, thanks for the help. problem solved.
