On Windows 7x64 I installed Google Talk. PSI said it was out of date. When I clicked to upgrade I got a notification that the version I was trying to install was for older versions of Windows. I cancelled the install.

Google have not updated Google Talk since Vista. That causes the error message but the update does work if you let it carry on. Google appear to want users to move to Google Chat on Chrome.

There's some history here: http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/127...

But I had just installed the latest version from Google's web site. Why would it need an upgrade?

If you downloaded from the US website and have version 1.0.0.104, I don't think you need to update. At least, that's my interpretation of the vulnerability report http://retrogod.altervista.org/9sg_gtalk_uri.html

International downloads get 1.0.0.105 which needs updating to 1.0.0.107.
