From a recent PSI scan, I was informed I needed to update Mozilla Firefox from 16 to 17. Each time I try it will not load and my PSI Dashboard score continues to be 99% rather than 100%. I loaded the Mozilla Firefox 17 update by going directly to the Mozilla website....still PSI does not recognize it as being installed. What can I do to get my PSI score back to 100%?

What path is PSI showing to the vulnerability?

FINDING A FILE PATH USING PSI

VERSION 2

From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each programme.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Below DETECTED INSTANCES you will see this You can double click this row for additional information & options>double click it>a box will appear>look to the RIGHT & U will see TROUBLESHOOT REPORT in BLUE writing under the heading TOOLBOX> click TroubleShoot Report & it will reveal some information in a box>highlight the information revealed from ---START--- to ---END--- & copy it (CTRL+C) then post it to the Forum (CTRL+V)

VERSION 3
This version does not have such an easy method to publish the path.

Open PSI>once open select Show Programs.
U will now see a page full of programme icons or a list.
Right click on the programme in error>select Show Details - that will open a box showing the path & version number of the offending file.
U now have 2 options:
1. Write down the exact file path & install version - return to the Forum & type that information.
2. Take a screen shot & publish that.

As suggested, I am sending you the link to a zip file containing my screenshots which indicate that Secunia reports Firefox 16 as requiring manual update. I have included the details showing the path of that report, the actual path to the file and the properties of the firefox.exe file which clearly shows that it is Firefox 17.

In addition, I have done a registry search and find not a single entry for firefox 16 although there are many for firefox 17.

Here is the link to my screenshots:

Hope you can help.

Hello Maurice ,

I can download and open the zip using 7 zip . The file(s) shows the 3.0 Ff icon and "update needed" and the default installation path in Program Files(x86) for version 16.0.x in the "show details" splash window .

Also the actual Ff installation is version 17.0 .

I would suggest double clicking the the file path in "show details" ands see what/if the (windows explorer) display shows for the problem file in the Proram Files (x86) Firefox folder .

Anthony

I can't understand why it would not open. I downloaded it just now and it worked fine. I used WinRAR to archive the first file, so I have now used 7-Zip to try it a second time. Works for me.

Try it, Just ckick on the link and it will download the file for you.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your input. I already tried what you suggested, that is, clicking on the file path in the "show details" box and it opens the folder containing Ff 17 and no other version.

Hi ,

Just a thought , have you run a full scan and/or rebooted since you did the "manual" update ??

I had rebooted a number of times but had not done a full scan. Just ran a rescan and it did the trick.

I'm now 100%. :) Much obliged!

Hello again ,

Good to hear you are fixed . A new scan is often , if not always , required for the PSI to register updates ; also depends on the software .

Personally , after the PSI has detected an update in important software like your browser , I would never let it - nor any other 3rd party software - try to do the update automatically or manually . It is generally agreed that the software programme's internal updater is the least hassle way to go about things .

In your open Ff Browser select the "Help" menu then "AboutFirefox" . This will tell you your version and you have a "Check for Updates" option . If you select this , it will automatically download the latest available version update - if there is one - ready for installation .

You can also set Ff to "auto-update" itself using the "Tools" menu->Options->Advanced->Update and choose your method .

Take care

Anthony
