Java is installed on my computer, and a new version is available. However, PSI does not detect Java or list it as being on my computer, let alone advise me to update it.. And my score is 100%. Why is PSI failing to detect Java? I also cannot add this program, since "fakepath" is grayed out so that it cannot be edited, and when I to browse to the Java executive file and doubleclick it, , PSI says it cannot access it.

Oracle JAVA 7 Update 13 is already on the Secunia database & is showing correctly in PSI & xSI after a full rescan.

It could be that IE is not set up correctly hence the Fake path message as well.

To check IE:

Open IE>Tools>IE options>Security>Trusted Sites>Click on sites and check this data is present:

There are two versions of Oracle Java 7 jre. It would help if you state your version of Windows including whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit and whether you are using IE 32-bit or 64-bit version. If you are not sure please read this article:
http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.... . Anyway if you already know that you need to update Java 7 then just update online and check your installation using Oracle's own site.
Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I usually use Chrome, not IE. But even if installing the Java update gets PSI to index it, that still doesn't explain why it did not note the existing installation, let alone advise me to update it. That is the issue for me: confidence in PSI's reliability.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to reply. My OS is Windows XP Pro, 32 bit. As I explained to the last respondent, I am more concerned with the reliability of PSI than with getting Java updated.

Hello ,

For your information , the PSI version 2.0.0.3003 is not yet showing the vulnerability after a full scan . Support need to update thePSI detection rules ASAP .

EDIT: it does detect the update to U13 without need for a further scan or reboot (on my XP SP3) .

Take care

Anthony

Hi Anthony
I have been unable to reproduce the issue. Please try a rescan and see if our latest update to our version rules for Java should have fixed the issue.

Hi Emil ,

I was reporting that after a full scan earlier today my PSI 2.0.0.3003 was still displaying U 11 as "up to date/fully patched" whilst U 13 is/was already in the database (according to Maurice).

@jschling7 had the same detection/display problem yesterday - scroll down to see her/his post of 01:27 on 03:02:2013 here :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/137...

As a consequence , I also ran a full scan yesterday and had U 11 as "up to date" , hence my (full) rescan today .

When I did a manual update to U 13 - the SPS installer has never been effective for me with Java - then , as I said , the update registered immediately and displayed correctly in the PSI .

I cannot go back (short on time atm) but I do wonder whether the U 11 is still showing as "up to date" in anyone else's PSI version 2.x.

Hope that is clearer .

Take care

Anthony

@Anthony
I think the simple explanation is that both you and jschling7 have been scanning prior to us updating our version rules for Java.
