How can you tell if there is a new version of PSI 3.0 that has been released?

Previously I downloaded "PSISetup.exe" from the website and installed that back in October 2012. I assumed the PSI program included a check to make sure that it was running the latest version itself?

I checked the Secunia website and it just showed the same version PSI 3.0 was available.

I downloaded the file and again it was "PSISetup.exe". It was a slightly different file size than the previous program, so I uninstalled the previous PSI 3.0 version and installed the newer PSI 3.0 version.

I don't remember exactly, but I am sure the old version was something like 3.0.4001 and the new version is 3.0.6001.

It seems strange that a program that is designed to check for out of date programs isn't able to check it is running the latest version of the program itself?

I second the question. How can we know what PSI's version is current?

PSI is a vulnerability checker not a general updater. Your old version was not vulnerable hence the lack of update action.

I think Secunia are looking to add a "Check for Update" option in the help menu at some stage.

I do regularly the following check: select products, then consumer products, then PSI and system requirements. The last verision is shown on the right side of the screen. However, I second your
request for an easier way to do this.

Thank you for the response, but i find that a very weak arguement.

If there wasn't a need to update from 3.0.4001 to 3.0.6001 then why did they bother releasing a new version in the first place.

For a program concerned with checking for vunerable other programs I just think it is crazy that the program doesn't check itself.

It is not really a weak argument just a statement of fact. If you are under the impression that PSI keeps your PC fully updated you are wrong. If used correctly it is fully updated to the latest version that is secure.

If there wasn't a need to update from 3.0.4001 to 3.0.6001 then why did they bother releasing a new version in the first place.

For cosmetic & bug fix reasons as explained on their change log:

https://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/sys_req/

For a program concerned with checking for vunerable other programs I just think it is crazy that the program doesn't check itself.

It does in line with all the other programmes listed in your scan results page. 3.0.0.4001 is not vulnerable therefore its status will not change in line with Secunia's well documented Modus Operandi.

As previously stated I think they may include a feature in a new release. The more that request such a feature the more chance of it being included.

This tells you how to join the bandwagon in hope:
