Will Secunia make a package available? If not, where would I find information on how to make one? Some easy step-by-step guide?

Thanks in advance

I didn't see it my CSI until I went into the Configure View settings and turned off the Display only programs for which silent update packages can be created automatically. Only when I turned that off, I see the Google Chrome to 25.x update package available.

Is there a reason why it can't be installed silently? It seems odd that previous Google Chrome updates worked silently but not the latest.

Edited: OK, I just tried creating the package and deploying it with SCCM, but unfortunately it fails on me. Anyone know how to create the package to run silently in CSI?

Hi,

Packages for Google Chrome are available in the Secunia Package System, but not as automatic updates. You can still create packages for Chrome, but you should take additional steps to configure your package with the correct edition of Chrome you like to publish.

You can click on 'Configure View' button within SPS, and then deselect the first and second checkboxes there. After you do that, you can find the grey Google Chrome entry and double-click on it to proceed with modifying your package. Tick the 'Edit Package Content' checkbox at step 1 of the following package wizard, then click Next.

At step 2, you must use the 'Add Local File' button to attach the correct installer of Chrome (Business or Private). After importing the latter, make sure you also add the corresponding silent parameter for this version of Chrome within the JScript template, at line 3 of the script (var silentParams). After you undertake these steps, your package would become applicable for installation on your systems and so you can proceed with publishing it to WSUS/SCCM.

Kind regards,
/Rosen Danailov

Thank you so much for your answer. This clears up a bit. BTW, we are highly impressed by CSI 6.

Thank you so much for pointing out these matters for us. Very sorry for my belated answer. No it turns out that most of the users have upgraded to Chrome 25. And on some machines we had to do some manual clean-up, as some versions of Chrome tend to leave old versions when upgrading.

Hi,

Unfortunately, the problem with Google Chrome is beyond Secunia's control.

Google has made both private and business editions identical by installation characteristics.
As there is no logical or behavior based method to distinguish the correct version in an automated fashion through our scanners, Secunia could not further perform automatic updates for this program because this could potentially lead to CSI patching a business edition with a private one, or the opposite move. Thus, you are left with the choice to import the correct version and then add it's silent parameters accordingly, to enable the package for installation.
