Every time I start the program it attempts to prepare and download updates. I have cleared the check mark in the Settings menu, but cannot stop this updating. Help appreciated please

Have you rebooted since you changed the settings ?
The other thing you could try; is to re-install and to choose that same option then.

I rebooted, also removed and reinstalled. Gave up and reverted to earlier version. Thanks for your suggestions
