PSI is showing Google Gears 0.x as end of life. I have no idea what this is or what it is about. It is located as follows:

C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\sfzone\gears.dll, version 0.5.33.0

It is located within my anti virus software, which has me puzzled since I am no computer tech. I guess I don't know what to do with this or how to handle it.

That file is located inside the Avast safe zone(sfzone) folder - it should be safe to delete it.

I can't remove it. If I try right clicking it tells me I don't have permission. I tried using "Unlocker" and that couldn't delete it either, but asked if I wanted it deleted after the next reboot. I clicked "yes" to that and then rebooted, but it's still there.

That file can only be deleted in SAFE MODE

reboot your computer and continually press f8 as it restarts - then select SAFE MODE .. once in there, go to
Computer
Local Disk (usually C: )
Program Files
Avast software
sfzone

then look for gears.dll and delete it

You will be given a window to confirm deletion which will advise that it's needed to power the Avast tubes .... it's not ........ deleting it is safe ..... I've just done it myself after checking the Avast forums for the same issue

Reboot normally ..... secunia will now show all is well and the offending file will be deleted. You can check by going back into the folder ....gearswill no longer be there and Avast is unharmed :)
