I installed the software and have a red icon in the taskbar. When I hover over the icon it indicates that I have programs that need updates. When I right click and try to open the program, it flashes and closes back to the task bar.

Any suggestions?

Try a reinstall using this link:

http://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

Just let it run - it will auto uninstall the old before the reinstall.

If that does not work are these running in Task Manager> Services (CTRL+Shift+Esc)

Secunia PSI Agent.

Secunia Update Agent.

I did a re-install and checked in the task manager. It shows that it is running. Still get a flash when I try to open. Both from the taskbar and the program menu.

I assume you mean both are running in which case you need to check your settings are as per the FAQ starting here:

Still not working. I am using XP Pro if that makes any difference.

The OS makes no difference. Did you check all the settings including whether your default browser was set up correctly in the Registry?

Hello Maurice ,

The flash close of the window sounds like it is (a variation on) the XP specific "bug" which Emil (after many months of asking) has added back to the FAQ's (last para/first entry) :-

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

Please note that only one of two possible "text" change operations/fixes is listed (will need to check with support) . Would be interesting to see if the one in the FAQ's works in this case .

Anthony

EDIT to try to get the correct FAQ link .

Anthony,
Thank you - pointed to that in my second post which he claims has been checked if I understand his third post correctly.

I hope he is rechecking the FAQ.

Maurice ,

In case it is needed , the second (global) fix is found in one of Kamran's posts to this thread :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/130...

and is :-

Go to Control Panel > Regional and language options > Languages Tab > Details > Advanced. From here, set a check at 'Turn off advanced text services'
(Please note that this is a global setting unlike what is described in step 1).

Anthony

The post below corrected the issue.

Thanks

To resolve the XP SP3 Issue:
1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
Please ensure that both the 'Secunia PSI Agent' and 'Secunia Update Agent' are set to 'Started' under status and 'Automatic' under 'Startup type'

2) Go to where you installed the PSI (Probably C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI), right-click PSI.exe, click Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and set a check at 'Turn off advanced text
services for this program'

3) Go to Control Panel > Regional and language options > Languages Tab > Details > Advanced. From here, set a check at 'Turn off advanced text services'
(Please note that this is a global setting unlike what is described in step 2).
