In light of the problem reported today by various people, which seems to have been a server glitch at Secunia or on the public network ---

Can I most kindly request that there be some immediate public visibility into outages? Something as simple and terse as a Twitter would be fine. Those of us who help in the forums could then know better what to tell everyone else.

I second this. Although, of course, it can be very difficult for Secunia staff to predict all sorts of outages (or breakdowns) that can occur.

If they can announce unplanned downtime in advance I will start a new religion :-) ... quick, informal notice of glitches as they occur, though, should be easy.

I think it is obvious that when PSI cannot reach the server, there is an outage in most cases. Or when I cannot log into my Account here. No need for yet another Secunia Notice to clutter up my Inbox.

It is not at all obvious. Consider one of the failure modes of the recent outage:

"Scan Status Scan completed in 3 seconds Error Log No errors detected."

To a new user, this might look like a successful scan. But it was in fact a server failure.

Ideally the desktop application would do a better job of reporting a problem getting the signature database. But unless that is fixed, what is needed here in the forums is some kind of alert to a server outage.
