However, all the status in the GUI is showing is "Updating". It would help if some of the stuff in the log was showed in the GUI so I knew what to do... why is it waiting? Since then the only log entries are me opening the GUI.

Also, why does the log state 0 automatic and create a status message for manual updating, then kick off what looks to be an automatic update of the program in question?

If you click on the hyperlink in this part of log file & select run what happens?

[07/06 13:15:45.354] Downloading url 'http://dl.secunia.com/SPS/IrfanView_4.36_SPS.exe' to file 'IrfanView_4.36_SPS.exe'

IrfanView is a full application, it definitely isn't running. AFAIK it doesn't hook into anything. It's just an image viewing/editing program.

If I click that URL the file downloads. Running the file brings up the IrfanView installation wizard.

Has it updated the programme?

After a full PSI rescan has it all been fixed?

Unsure what @mogs means. It is a full programme in its own right as the log file suggests.

Going through the wizard and running a full scan after results in Secunia seeing the program as being up-to-date.

My interest though is primarily in why PSI sat at Updating.

@Maurice

I'd just Googled "Irfanview"....went to the following..http://www.irfanview.com/......
What is IrfanView ?........How to install IrfanView PlugIns?......hence my remarks.
Apologies if not of any use.

Pleased to see you are all fixed up.

I have a good idea on the issue but much better you get a detailed reply from Secunia Support.

I would leave the thread open & then contact Secunia Support at support@secunia.com & ask them to comment on this thread or I can do it for you.

They will not reply until Monday earliest.

@Quitch

The following is a copy of a reply made by Support to a similar question....some time ago....in part, also explaining my question to you.

When do auto-updates occur ?

The Auto-updates are scheduled as soon as the PSI becomes aware that you are missing a patch (ie. when you run scan).

However, to prevent the PSI from disturbing your workflow, it will perform a check before installing: such as whether or not the program is running, or a certain file is locked. This should prevent auto-updates from interfering with normal program usage.

Regards..........mogs.........
