Mozilla is not automatically updating. I've performed "Scan Again" and it's not updating. How do I "force" the update?

@kiscoper

The following is a copy/note from Support re auto updates :-
The Auto-updates are scheduled as soon as the PSI becomes aware that you are missing a patch (ie. when you run scan).

However, to prevent the PSI from disturbing your workflow, it will perform a check before installing: such as whether or not the program is running, or a certain file is locked. This should prevent auto-updates from interfering with normal program usage.

I don't use Firefox, but I've read a few forum members who do, and that recommend manually updating.

Regards.....mogs.....

Does that mean installing the updated version and uninstalling the outdated version?

As far as I know....yes. I don't think FF removes the previous/older version when you update. ( like Chrome )
If you wish, you can install the new version....then run a full psi scan, which will detect the older version, if still present....which you can then delete.

Hope it helps.....

Yes Firefox removes the 'old' & installs the 'new'-
or at least it does on the ESR version. But as mogs stated
a full scan will detect the 'old' remnants if present.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, mogs and wr.

By opening FF - Help - About FF - there was an automatic update performed. Then I scanned again in Secunia. Worked like a charm.

Hi All ,

The method used/described by @kiscoper is the preferred method as recommended by both Mozilla and Secunia . One can check/refine one's settings by using the opened Ff Help menu ->Options->Advanced->Updates . I have mine set to "Auto" with "Prompt" -"Auto" is usually the default setting .

People who have found old Ff files left behind "tend" to be those who have let the PSI do the updating for them . At the risk of repeating myself , I would never let a third party software update - "auto" or not - any of my key software . @wr (aka OGSO) has a similar , if not more paranoid , philosophy :)))

Hope that helps

Anthony
