I have been happily running PSI for some years now. My machine is a Windows 7 HP laptop. Other than Windows Updates, and other software updated via PSI's auto updates, there have been no changes recently.

However PSI 2.0 suddenly started hanging while reporting 'Verifying Internet Connection'. Re-installation of the software had no effect. Installation of 3.0, did not help, with it reporting 'Loading' and then just sitting there. I do have an internet connection.

I have tried the solutions suggested in the FAQ's but in fact my settings were as suggested anyway. Does anybody have any other suggestions ?

Without knowing exactly what you have tried - take a look at the solution in this thread:

In particular as suggested by mogs:

(unknown source)
Please note that some Internet Security Suites (Kaspersky Internet Security is currently an example) have their own settings for trusted sites. In case you are using such a program, you need to allow https://*.secunia.com as a trusted site in this program as well as in Internet Explorer.

I have confirmed that scripting is enabled and added the Secunia sites under Internet Options.

The Services admin tool confirms that both the Update agent and PSI agent are set to automatic and are running.

I am not running Kapersky, but I am running Sophos which does not appear to have the concept of trusted sites.

I've had problems fairly recently with psi 2.0...as you describe....but latterly yesterday and today, it's been working fine....you might be better off reverting to psi 2.0.
It's sometimes best to wait until any server problems have been settled.

Regards.......mogs......

Patience is a virtue. I took your advice and reverted to 2.0, and all is working again as before. The only other change I made was after inspecting the PSI logs I found that it was the need to manually install OpenOffice 4, which PSI had been flagging. I can't believe it was that change that made it all work again though, so I'll go along with the theory of it being a server glitch.

Thanks again for your advice.

Regards

Richard

@richard

I've noticed a few instances where psi 3.0 hasn't been such a success with W7.....a few have tho' been able to get fixed up with psi 2.0.........as you've now found 2.0 is up and running, you could always give 3.0 another go if you feel so inclined.....personally, I still prefer 2.0.0.3003 anyrate.
I've still noticed some slowness occasionaly with psi...and here on site.
If you feel at any time the issue is settled....you, as the originator of the thread, can close it, by pressing Accept.....that will prevent tag-on posts and reminder e mails to your inbox.

Regards.....mogs.....
