I’m running Windows 8 on my admin desktop, but we still use WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Server 2008 R2. If you’re in my situation, you know that WSUS 3.0 requires the 32-bit CSI program and Windows 8 can only run the 64-bit version. Here’s the workaround that I’m using for administration, and maybe you will find it useful.
After installing CSI on my WSUS server, I created a RemoteApp shortcut to c:\\program files (x86)\\secunia\\csi\\csi.exe using the instructions from this blog post: http://publicjotting.blogspot.com/2012/12/remoteap...
This gave me a customized RDP file that launches CSI from my WSUS server, but windowed in my Windows 8 computer. You can’t pin shortcuts to the taskbar in Windows 8, but I enabled the Quick Launch bar which handles pinned shortcuts just fine. For the finishing touch, I grabbed the CSI icon from WSUS and used it for my shortcut.
