When I booted I had two PSI icons in my taskbar. First they were greyed out for a bit and then both turned red.

I clicked one of the icons and closed it. The one that remained turned green. But when I opened PSI, while it was loading, it turned red. Then my screen said all programs were up to date. I clicked to show programs and there was only one program listed -- Microsoft Vista.

I re-scanned and after that it said all programs were up to date and I asked to see the list of programs and again, only Microsoft Vista was listed. So I restarted my computer.

I again ended up with two icons in my taskbar; both of them were red but when I hoverd over them they both said all programs are up to date.

I did a re-scan and after that it said I might have programs that need to be updated so I clicked to show programs and it again showed only Microsoft Vista in my program list. So according to PSI, right now I've only got on program on my computer -- the operating system..

I am re-scanning again right now. It says that my system score is unknown but hovering over the RED icons say all programs are up to date and the scan seems to be going nowhere. In fact, I closed it down because it was making no progress.

I'm sorry if this is hard to follow but it's making no sense at all.

***OKAY - the icon just turned green. I have opened it and am waiting for it to load ... Now it's back and all my programs are again listed. I'm going to go ahead and post this so that if I have further problems I'll have the background noted.

But why am I ending up with 2 instances of Secunia starting when I boot?

@Nikilet

I'm running Vista....the Secunia icon hasn't altered at all....I havn't run a scan today tho'.
My CHKDSK has automatically been performing consistancy scans, most days since Patch Tuesday. Given the buggy patch reports....I'm beginning to think I've been pretty lucky !!

@Nikilet

Have just performed a full psi scan...no abnormalities to report....the only "anomalies"...scan took a few seconds longer and the pop up balloon from the unaltered green icon was slightly slower in reporting for duty !!
Maybe your CHKDSK is having a nap ?!

I cannot explain why two icons appeared but I have noted that occasional odd behaviour with other programmes in my task tray. Like you, a mouse over will close one of them - on that basis not sure it is just Secunia.

The other odd results are:

The server(s) have thrown yet another wobbly. This Forum has been slow since late last night & now I note on completing a scan that to is also on a go slow. I would not assume it is anything to do with your PC or your ISP. How long it takes Secunia to get it up & running correctly is any ones guess. It could be either a physical malfunction or an overload on their server(s).

The icon saga has been going on for ages.(My last recorded contact with Support was on 25th October last year). I recently sent some additional screen shots to Support on the odd behaviour of the "new" grey icon. At that time they were unable to give a progress report on a fix.

Reliance on the icon colour in the task tray is not a good move until Secunia find the cause & fix it.

If you get this message be grateful - every little helps!!

seriously slow here today to access Secunia, post replies, open threads.

Also, when I try to log on I'm taken to the Change Profile screen. That might be a Norton Vault issue though so I'm relaxed about it for now.

Just wanted to correct one thing you said. A mouse over did not close that second icon in the taskbar. I had to right click on it and exit from it. Anyway, all seems to be ok for the time being.

Cheers to you guys in France! :>))
