I have Secunia PSI 3.0.0.9015 on Windows 7.

I downloaded and installed Legacy 8 Standard (from legacyfamilytree.com) into its default folder C:\Legacy, and restarted the computer. Then I ran the program to make sure that it worked properly - which it seemed to. Then I attempted to scan it with PSI - which failed to identify it.

So I attempted to Add the program... clicked the Add Program button, surfed to the program (C:\Legacy\Legacy.exe), but Secunia said that it "does not appear to be a program", and recorded the URL as 'C:\fakepath\legacy.exe'.

Can you please tell me what is happening?

P.s. The LegacyFamilyTree website says that Legacy HAS to be installed in C:\Legacy, or the program will not work properly. It also instructed me to switch off UAC during installation, which I did - turning it back on after installation.

@Arafurian
File info. required to suggest a program

"Are you missing a Program?" feature.
Browse and select a file in Windows Explorer that is acceptable for meta data tracking.

Try to find an exe/ ocx or dll file that has a version number attached .

Best is the main exe file....right click on it/select properties/look at the details tab which should have a clear version number. That is the file Secunia are looking for.

Current Version is: 8.0.0.356
Build Date of: 30 November 2013
http://legacyfamilytree.com/DownloadUpdate.asp

Hope it helps........regards.....mogs

HI ,

When the url shows "fakepath" it means that your IE/internet connection to Secunia servers is not working (correctly) .

You need to (re)check your settings as per this item of the FAQ's :-

Take care

Anthony

Thank you for your suggestion. The file that Secunia seems to have trouble finding is indeed the very legacy.exe you describe - legacy.exe, version 8.0.0.0356.

Thank you for your suggestions. I had checked most of this prior to posting my query; I have now checked the last. IE 11 has Scripting set to enabled, and “secunia.com” is marked as 'always allow'; and, in Administrative Services, “Secunia PSI Agent” is listed and has its “Startup type” set to “Automatic”.

I might add that Secunia has been running incident-free on the affected computer for about a year, so this is new behaviour.

Have you been able to submit the programme without the error message?

EDIT 17:56 02/12/2013 GMT

Secunia have accepted my suggestion for this programme. I will post to this thread when they have included it on their database.

You will almost certainly need to carry out a full PSI rescan to pick it up.

If you are still getting the error message when suggesting a programme it is because you have not got https://*.secunia.com

installed in IE11 under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Trusted Sites>Sites

Hi Maurice:

[Have you been able to submit the programme without the error message?]
- - - - No.

EDIT 17:56 02/12/2013 GMT

- - - - Thank you!

- - - - Have done, but no joy yet.!

If you are still getting the error message when suggesting a programme it is because you have not got https://*.secunia.com' installed in IE11 under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Trusted Sites>Sites

- - - - Found the issue! I went to IE 11, Internet Options, SECURITY tab. - There was NO Trusted Sites button. I forgot to look for a Trusted Sites tab. That is now fixed. Secunia still does not recognise Legacy, but at least it recognises its folder, and I have requested an 'add program'. Now, I wait!

Many thanks to all for your help.

Legacy 8 should now be showing after a scan.

Thank you so much - mission accomplished!!

(All of which just goes to prove (something). Legacy's security problem began in about 2006, which is when Secunia first noticed it, and declared it unsafe.. Quick as a flash, the Legacy organisation sprang into gear, and a mere seven years later, they have at last earned Secunia's Big Green Tick. Whoopee! I think.)

Pleased to see you are all fixed up.

On that basis, I will lock this thread for U sometime tomorrow unless U post back asking for it to be left open.
