I am currently running on Vista 32 bit and PSI 3.0
According to my recent scan, I need to update Realplayer 16.x. My current version is 16.0.3.51. According to the Realplayer website, the next download is supposed to be Reallplayer Cloud, which is not available for Vista. I currently have the latest version for download. I even tried to redownload Realplayer, over my current installation, to see if it would clear the notification in Secunia, but no luck. Is there something else I am missing?

Same here. Finally i uninstalled Realplayer so as not to have an insecure program on my computer. Not the best solution, but I'm not tech savvy & didn't know what else to do.

I have the same issue.
The only solution I could see was to download the Cloud version but for some reason this will not work. Realplayer is a handy free tool to have so uninstalling it seems a shame but keeping it unpatched seems unssatisfactory.
Any suggestions anyone?

From my research RealPlayer is not vulnerable if you have version 16.0.3.51 istalled.

FINDING A FILE PATH USING PSI

VERSION 2


From the DASHBOARD page click on SCAN RESULTS.

1. This will list all your programmes with a + to the left of each programme.
2. Click the + sign next to the item that U want help with.
3. This will reveal the path under DETECTED INSTANCES.
4. Below DETECTED INSTANCES you will see this You can double click this row for additional information & options>double click it>a box will appear>look to the RIGHT & U will see TROUBLESHOOT REPORT in BLUE writing under the heading TOOLBOX> click TroubleShoot Report & it will reveal some information in a box>highlight the information revealed from ---START--- to ---END--- & copy it (CTRL+C) then post it to the Forum (CTRL+V)

VERSION 3
This version does not have such an easy method to publish the path.

Open PSI>once open select Show Programs.
You will now see a page full of programme icons or a list.
Right click on the programme in error>select Show Details - that will open a box showing the path & version number of the offending file.
You now have 3 options:
1. Write down the exact file path & install version - return to the Forum & type that information.
2. Take a screen shot & publish that.

The file is located on my M:\drive, which for me, is my primary drive.
The location is M:\Program Files\Real\Realplayer\realplay.exe
The version is 16.0.3.51
According to Real Player, this is the highest version currently available on Vista, but Secunia shows it as a program needing updating.

Does the PSI result state it is vulnerable or End of Life?

If End of Life it should show something like this:

Thank you. I am writing to Secunia Support later this evening on various matters - I will ask them to comment on this thread for you.

I believe that your version located at M:\Program Files\Real\Realplayer\realplay.exe - version is 16.0.3.51

is up to date.

Same problem here.

My version of Secunia says RealPlayer 16.x is END OF LIFE.
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Real\RealPlayer.realplay.exe

Secunia says 17x is the latest version.

RealPlayer version I have: Version 16.0.3.51

Trying to update RealPlayer, the programs hangs. It wants to update a "critical" update for RealPlayer Cloud. I didn't know I had a cloud and it's not something I want. There is no uninstall option in the Control Panel for RealPlayer Cloud.

Is Secunia giving a false warning?

Interesting that one PSI readout states it requires updating & another states it is End of Life.

My post above to the originator implies that it could indeed be a false positive.

Sadly to date Secunia Support have not replied to my email or, more importantly, posted to this thread to clarify the situation.

I had forgotten but I a member of Real Networks so I have left a message about this and will post it here when I hear back. There is probably no need for more than one message to be posted in that case.

By the way I managed to get Real Player Cloud downloaded in the end, but it didn't get rid of the 17.x nag or the 'end of life' tag.

RealPlayer has upgraded its app to RealPlayer Cloud. Unfortunately, it only works on Windows 7 & 8, so for us XP and Vista users, what we have is the best it will ever get. How Secunia handles that, I don't know. Theoretically we should *not* be given any kind of update or end-of-life msg because this is the only version we can run on our PCs. However, it really is end-of-life in the sense that it cannot be upgraded and will no longer be supported.

Hi ,

As a long time XP user (just - quite successfully - migrated to W8.1) , I first started with RealPlayer and then moved on to other stuff as my needs changed ; personally , I find this site most useful and here's the link for their look at Media Players :-

If you feel the risk of losing support in XP and Vista for Real is not one worth taking , there is - in my experience - plenty of good (free) stuff out there .

Just heard back from RealNetworks and here is their response:


The latest version is RealPlayer Cloud (17.0.6.13) and it is compatible with Windows 7 & 8 only. If you are running Windows Vista or XP, please be aware that we are no longer making any updates to RealPlayer 16 or earlier versions.

If you are running Windows 7 & 8, you can download RealPlayer Cloud from: www.real.com

So as I see it there are the following outstanding issues:
- those running XP/Vista will not get upgrades/support
- despite upgrading to 17.0.6.13 Secunia is still nagging me as out of date with 16.0.3.51 - I have downloaded it once, rebooted etc etc then I uninstalled it and since then I have had the original problem - that I can't install the cloud version again. I can log on to the Real website but get an error message every time I try to download the cloud version.
- Secunia also labels it as 'end of life' which in view of Real's statement is clearly not the case, and they obviously need to amend the comments
I hope this helps somewhat.

Just got of the phone with RealNetworks Customer Support.

Then assured me that they are working on a RealPlayer Cloud version for Windows XP and Vista.

Users using RealPlayer 16.x are strongly recommended to update or removed the RealPlayer 16.x from their system as it is currently affected by a "Highly Critical" vulnerability:
