First, my printer wouldn't print. It's shown as offline and refuses to come on-line so I asked Brother for help.

Then I found that my Norton toolbar & icon weren't showing on my Win7/IE11 laptop. No such problems on my XP/IE8 desktop
I tried to open NIS from my start program - couldn't - then via their Autofix on-line system. That too wouldn't start.

Then I did what I usually have to do next - check for Microsoft updates as so many problems seems to happen after their updates. yes - there had been updates - as below - so I've asked them for help.

Has anyone else had any problems following today's updates?

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2971850)

They are not today's updates - they were issued by Microsoft on 8th July - https://1ncuig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2p3ariK4HXMD...

All went on Windows 7/8/8.1 perfectly in my case.

EDIT
Also, Norton version 21.4.0.13 was/is unaffected by any Microsoft patching.

I've found the cause but it still leaves a question.

After I had the problem with the printer, but before I checked the Windows Updates History, I did a System Restore. The last Restore point was the 10th July, the day when those updates were installed.

I realise now that the System Restore point is created before the updates are installed, not afterwards so I'd actually restored the laptop to the point at which updates were needed, hence this morning.

So it's not the Microsoft Updates to blame - this time.

I'll now have to check to see if any other updates ran first thing today.

Thanks
