This morning, I finally decided to "ignore" MSMXL v4, rather than rename it and wait and see. On balance that seemed to me to be the sensible thing to do.

I've just run PSI again and now the blasted program is missing from the list. When I right-clicked it earlier to 'ignore' it, it brought up two option Open Folder & Ignore program. The latter had what I though was a default plus two edit options. I clicked on OK (or accept).

I have only ever "ignored" a program once before - it was a Microsoft removal tool - and it always appeared at the bottom of the list but greyed out. I can't remember if I chose the default option then but I probably would have.

(1) Has the default option changed i.e. to have MSMXL v4 at the bottom of my list but greyed out should I have selected one of the 'Edit' options?
(2) Do I really need to get it back? If so, must I use the add program option, then "Ignore" it but with which Edit option?
(3) Or is PSI confused?

This has happened on both of my PCs.

Edit: to clarify the right-click in line 2

Hi Taffy, I have set this program to 'ignored' in PSI v. 3 and it's shown on the bottom line, greayed out and marked 'end of life'. Possibly it works different in earlier PSI version but I can't remember.

nice to hear from you Leendert. I think that it was greyed out on my PSI v2 the last time.

Yes it is you taffy ; I seem to remember advising you a few weeks ago :-

For the PSI 2.x versions go Dashboard->Configuration->Settings->Ignore Rules .

Take care

Anthony

good morning, Anthony.

Yes, the program is showing there so I now know that I can change it if I want to in the future.

But that still doesn't explain why it's no longer on the list of programs and greyed out. I'll go quietly though now I know it's working OK!

Are you not confusing PSI version 2 with 3? They show differently:

PSI 2 shows as explained by Anthony.

PSI 3 shows at the bottom of the main list greyed out:
https://1ncuig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2pSfrabJwhpG...

Although it is very much a personal decision on what to do with MSXML 4 becoming EOL I would counsel caution on this:

This morning, I finally decided to "ignore" MSMXL v4, rather than rename it and wait and see. On balance that seemed to me to be the sensible thing to do.

There is nothing to wait & see - MSXML 4 is Discontinued/Dead/EOL & MS will no longer service it. Windows 7 is worth protecting because it does not leave mainstream support until January 2015.

Provided you know which programme MSXML 4 is supporting then a balanced judgement can be made to retain it.

If you have just ignored it without any research or knowledge of why it is installed I DO URGE CAUTION. There is a RISK - how large or small is anyone's guess.

[quote=p57388]Are you not confusing PSI version 2 with 3? They show differently:

I guess that I must be - it was the Blaster Naachi that I last "ignored" - it was greyed out so I must have had PSI v3 at that time, Maurice.

There is nothing to wait & see - MSXML 4 is Discontinued/Dead/EOL & MS will no longer service it. Windows 7 is worth protecting because it does not leave mainstream support until January 2015.

by wait and see, I meant that I simply haven't the time at the moment to rename it and 'wait & see which programs won't work'. I'll revisit it in a few months' time.

Your info about windows7 has really shocked me, Maurice - I was aware that MS had stopped its PC partners from pre-loading Win7 but I wasn't aware that Win7 customers will be stuffed like this. XP was understandable given its age but for Win7 to be dumped so soon? I hope that the USA regulators get on board this - it's a disgrace.

I'll start a new thread to see if other Win7 users are aware of this.
