I can't install this new version. Error: Windows installer service could not be accessedd. This is the first time ever I see this problem. How to fix this?

I have done a few tests for you on my Windows 7 SP1 PC.

First I downloaded the UK version & it easily installs correctly as 11.0.8.4.

https://1ncuig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2pSh5cbvnneL...

I then uninstalled the UK version & tried Dutch:

https://1ncuig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2pf-hRoRWSMS...

As can be seen it installed a vulnerable version which Heimdal picked up straight away.

The actual download URL I used to test the above was:

http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Looks like an Adobe issue in that they need to update the various languages other that English (UK) but I could not reproduce your Windows Installer error.

EDIT: To be clear both versions downloaded & installed flawlessly - the oddity was in the version numbers installed.

Hi Maurice, thanks for your investigation. I always use the internal updater which now indicates that there is an update available. Installing this results in de windows installer problem. I used your link, resulting in a file: install_reader11_uk_mssd_aaa_aih.exe. Surprise: this installation fails with the same error. Then I checked the status of the windows installer. services: started/automatic. msconfig/services: active. So I expect windows installer should work but it isn't. Any ideas?

Update: I now checked the same on my laptop. Internal updater worked nornal. Installer status in services: started/manual, in msconfig/services active.

Thanks again, Maurice, but none of the three worked. Option 1) the menus shown in the instruction are not the same as shown on my pc, so I was unable to load the content in the gray block. Option 2) I could completely follow the instructions, checked the status of windows installer accordingly, windows installer was active but the installation of Adobe Reader caused the same error. 3) I uninstalled Adobe Reader, got the same warning about windows installer, ignored that but Adobe Reader was uninstalled completely. Because I cannot 'live' without a pdf reader I chose to install Foxit Reader, free version. No problems during installation, it works. I don't understand what's wrong with windows installer on my pc but I'm satisfied with this solution.

@rbartlett. I'm clsosing my thread because my installation problem can't be solved using the Microsoft repair procedures as mentioned by Maurice. And your question isn't related to my problem. I think there' s little chance you get a reply in the forum and I think it's better to send an e-mail to support: support@secunia. com
