I successfully downloaded the latest version of Secunia PSI to Windows Vista with ALL latest updates. When I click on the desktop Secunia toolbar icon it shows the large Secunia version 3.0 page indicating it IS loading but the task manager shows that it is NOT responding no matter how long I wait. I eventually have to "End Task" in task manager and Secunia never launches.
Please help and thank you.

Secunia eventually DID launch BUT it took over THREE minutes to do so and during that time I was NOT able do anything else. It locked me out of launching such things as my browser and mail program among other things. It does this everytime I launch Secunia PSI Why does this happen?

Does the PSI log give you any clues to the slowness?

Where Do I access THIS???? i dont see anywhere in version 3.0.0.9016 to access a log file. All I see is the history and i dont see how this would help me with this problem.

Thanks for a reply.

The log file is at C:\Program Files (x86)>Secunia>PSI>psialog

https://1ncuig.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2pFAdTIwwyQf...

There could be two files - it is perfectly safe to delete the log file(s) & create a new copy if it makes it easier to troubleshoot.

I DID go into the log file in which there is ALOT of information but I have NO idea what to look for in it. I DO know how to delete the file called: psialog.txt but do NOT know how to creata a new copy.
Will deleting and then creating a new copy of the psialog.txt file solve my problem?

i did NOT have this problem with the earlier version of Secunia PSI I was using. THIS version(3.0.0.9016) is HORRIBLE. When I FINALLY am able to launch the program it again freezes my computer while it checks for updates.
Unless someone can provide me with a resolution I would like to know HOW to go back to the earlier version of Secunia PSI.
Thank You

Using the log will not solve your problem but may point to something that you can investigate further.

As you have suggested you can just right click any log files & select delete. Once you start using PSI again it will automatically create a new log. As suggested for trouble shooting it may be easier to create a new log to see if there are any obvious reasons for the slowness/stalls.

From my tests using this PC there is a slight difference in speed between V2 & V3 - V2 was SLIGHTLY quicker.

A link back to Version 2.0.0.4003 for comparison is here:

https://secunia.com/PSI2Setup.exe

Just click the link - it will auto uninstall V3 before installing V2.

Hope this helps.

Version 2.0.0.4003 runs soooooooooooo much better. It does NOT take forever to launch and does NOT freeze my computer while launching and then scanning. What is the problem with the latest version?
Thank You

I do not use PSI on a permanent basis but do download various versions at intervals to try & help others with problems.

I have not had any real problems with V3 but MANY users have.

There is no advantage in updating to V3 - indeed many would argue it is a backward step in that the latest version is not really user friendly, lacks options & suffers from issues like you had.

The main feature appears to be the automation of some updates to clear vulnerabilities for basic knowledge PC users which has proved to be unreliable & is the only version that works with SMB.

Pleased to see that you are all fixed up again - I would stick with V2.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. The developers did a DISservice to Secunia PSI users.
Many thanks for your help and have a good day.
