I wonder if anyone can help please.

I am running Secunia PSI on a Windows 7 SP1 64 bit PC and Secunia fails to run the scan.
I had the problem originally on Version 2.0.0.3001 which failed to run its weekly scan since 5th July so I installed latest version 3.0.0.9016 but that fails too.
So I have reinstalled 2.0.0.3001 as it displays the stages with tick boxes prior to scanning and shows where its failing.
It runs through step 1. Scan Started, then runs step 2. Downloading the search rules from Secunia, then it skips straight to step 8. Matching data with Secunia File Signatures Engine, completely missing 5 steps. After a few seconds on “Matching data with Secunia File Signatures engine” then a box says “Alert scan aborted”.
I have checked that https://*.secunia.com is listed as a trusted site.
I have verified that the “Secunia PSI Agent” has its “Startup type” set to “Automatic”.
I have attached a log file hoping it can shed some light on the problem.

Many thanks if you can help

Chris

Chris,
What is the sfw sequence of events? Are you using a proxy for example?

Hi Maurice,
thanks for coming to help.
I'm not sure what you mean by "What is the sfw sequence of events?" I see sfw in the log but I don't understand what it refers to.
Also you ask "Are you using a proxy for example?". as far as I know I am not. Nothing has changed regarding my access to the internet since PSI stopped running in July. PSI seems to be accessing the internet ok as the Secunia tray icon is red.
What is even stranger is that I have installed both old and new versions of PSI on my laptop running Windows 7 64bit SP1 and both run perfectly.

Chris,
It looks like sfw is something to do with a security programme/browser protector you have installed.

I have just tested PSI 2.0.0.3003 on a Windows 7 SP1 64 Bit PC & the log file looks like this:

Hi Maurice,
I have also just produced a log from my W7 64 bit SP1 laptop, running PSI 2.0.0.3001 (very near your version). It gives a quite different log to yours! but it does run ok.

Yes, the log is running OK & part of the programme but it is not connecting.

I note your PC Name has changed. On scan 1 it was 990FX & on the latest scan it is T61.

Is it the same PC running the scans? If so what is changing the PC name?

I'm running it on my laptop where it runs ok.
Right at the start it says:

Secunia PSI starting
Determining computer name

but further down says:

Writing started: 100
Secunia PSI starting
Determining computer name

and it does this about 6 more times during the log.

Chris,
No one is suggesting the PC is not running OK. The Secunia server cannot see your PC to scan & give a result.

It looks like that process is being prevented by sfw which I suspect is changing your PC Name.

The exam questions are:
What is changing your PC name for each scan which is not normal protocol?
Have you for example got any of these installed?

PC Firewall
Buhl Data Services GmbH
SFFirewall Service

If not have you installed any other new programmes since 5th July?

Its not changing my PC name. I'm running the same version of PSI on my laptop then comparing the logs to see what the trouble may be. My PC is called 990FX and it produces the long logs with errors. My laptop is called T61 and runs the same PSI version with no problem. They both have IE 11 and Chrome installed, Chrome being default on both computers. I'll have a look to see which programs have been installed since 5th July, thanks for the hint.

Chris,
Thank you. I agree - I did ask the question are they the same PC - your reply was not clear to me - they are different & should remain that way.

Clearly your PC name is not being changed so that rules out that issue.

Interesting to see what if any new programmes have been installed..
