Hi,
I am using PSI since a long time and like it very much. But now I have a problem:
When the laptop starts up (W7) then a window pops up (translated from German):
"Internet connection, please ensure that your internet connection is working properly".
I can run PSI and do scans, but the PSI icon always stays gray.
- I am running Kaspersky Internet Security, but when I stop it nothing changes
- I followed also the instructions under FAQ "The Secunia PSI won’t load the interface or won’t
complete scanning" but no success.
- as I mentioned, PSI was running on this machine for a long time but suddenly I have this
problem.

Any idea?
Thanks
Heinz J

Try a right click on the grey icon & select close tray icon.

Now restart PSI via Start Orb>All Programs>Secunia PSI

Does that give you Red or Green?

Hi ,

This is something which gets reported from time to time ; if you have time you could search the threads ; this will give you a taste :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/146...

I do not remember any one specific cause , so if your PSI is working correctly apart from the grey icon , you might have to live with it .

Let us know how you get on .

Thanks for replying,
as I mentioned I had already tried the suggestions mentioned in the FAQ but
without success.
So I may have to wait ....
Thanks

Sorry to see it did not work for you. It happens a fair bit on my Windows 8.1 PC when my wireless internet connection is slightly slower to load than PSI.

Sometimes it corrects itself - other times I try the solution I gave you & it works but all a bit hit or miss.

A more permanent cure I found was to change the start sequence of PSI in services to automatic (delayed).

By using the auto (delayed) option the icon will be grey at start up - this auto changes once PSI gets established. Maybe worth a try.

Hi,

Situation is still unsolved.

I have a PC and a laptop, both Windows 7, both running KIS, both PSI. The Laptop is running the actual version (3.0.0.915), but the PC runs 3.0.0.2003.

PSI on the PC runs without this problem, where PSI on the Laptop has the problem I have described.

Is there a possibility to install PSI-2003 also on the Laptop, just to see if this is a version issue?

Cheers,
Heinz J

Hello Heinz ,

If you look here you wil see the changelog for the PSI versions :-

http://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/sys_req/

Neither of your versions as you have quoted them are on the list ; that does not mean much as I run version 2.0.0.3003 (probably the best) and it's not there either .

The downloaders on the rhs of this page will ONLY give you :-

3.0.0.916

OR

2.0.0.4003

OR

1.5.0.2

Unless Maurice can give you some older version links from a SECURE source and you have not kept the 3.xx installer on your PC , then you might see if 3.0.0.916 is an improvement or more certainly 2.0.0.4003 should be reliable . Versions of 3.xx tend to be quite idiosyncratic in deciding whether to run on any given system .

Hope that helps .

Anthony

Hello Anthony,
Following your suggestion I have deinstalled Secunia 3 and
installed Secunia 2.

Then I have started a scan .In the step-by-step description
it jumped from 1 (Downloading search rules) to 7 (Matching
data with Secuia File signatures), i.e. it skipped 'serching
files' and 'collecting information from files and the other
steps. At the end a window popped up: 'Alert, Scan aborted'

In addition, I noticed 2 things:

1) Under 'scan results' I can see the result of the last
successful scan. When one deinstalls PSI, is there some
leftover somewhere (registry?)?

2) Under 'configuration settings' I can require a log file.
PSI tells me that the file will be:
C:\Users\weyer.MPC1761\Documents\psilog.txt

Up to some weeks ago, this
laptop was on the company/institute network. I am not a
network specialist, but as far as I remember the laptop
had at that time the name MPC1761. Now the laptop is taken
off and my current username is 'weyer'.

Now, could there be a mixup due to some leftovers?
Is there a possibility to start from a clean, virgin state?

Thanks
Heinz J

Hello Heinz ,

Please excuse the delay in replying to you ; been busy elsewhere .

The last successful scan details and other relevant data is held by Secunia on their servers ; very little is left to be found found on your computer and the PSI is basically just a GUI between you and the servers .

From what you say concerning the recent history of the machine and the appearance of the aborted scan problem , a fresh start would be logical . Only Support can give you a clean up so you will need to contact them by email at support@secunia.com and ask them to delete your PSI profile and history . I am not sure if they will be able to keep your log-in details to the Forum but ask Support to keep them , if they can .

Let us know what they say/do for you .

Anthony
