Hi,
I am using Windows XP, Home, Service Pack 3. I am the admin/owner of the computer.
After installing the personal version of Secunia couple of months ago, I just found out that Add/Remove programs from my Control Panel cannot generate a list of installed programs for me. It still let me change/set access default programs, add a new program, add/remove windows components, just not give me a list of installed programs, so I can't even uninstall any program.
I found this problem out because Secunia kept telling my need to install Adobe Reader 9, which I did. So I thought I might need to manually remove Adobe Reader 8, thus I found the problem.
I uninstalled Secunia just, by getting into the folder where the program was stored. Secunia does not even have the option to uninstall it from the START/ALL Programs. I restarted Windows, problem is still there.
Please help.
Thanks
Su

You may also have an underlying problem of malware. I would be sure to completely scan your PC for malware, which may have caused the Add/Remove Programs problem.

Hi,
Adobe programme is still here, but I removed Secunia.
I did scan for viruses/malwares, etc... with McAfee, AntiMalaware, AntiSpyware... They didn't find viruses. But I am scanning again in SAFE Mode, just to make sure...
Thanks.
Su

Good to know you're malware free. System Restore is a good idea. Chances are that it's one of two problems:

1. Your registry got corrupted at some point, due to a faulty uninstall or you might have used some registry "cleaner" which did a poor job. A System Restore (to a time that the Add / Remove Programs was working) should resolve this. You would then have to re-patch your system with any updates since that time.

2. Some application on your system might be using up a lot of CPU. In this case, generally you would notice a general system slowdown. Sometimes this can be malware, other times just an improperly functioning process. You could check your Task Manager to see if there are any high CPU usage processes when you try to view the Add / Remove Programs list.

If neither of these work, your registry is most likely messed up somehow, and you'll need to basically follow guidance with that MS article I linked.

Best Wishes,
Kurosh

Please note that pchell.com may have malware content. It may not be a safe place to visit or recommend others visit.

See: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=www.pche...

Also, IE was identified in the MS post I linked above as a possible problem, although the link you provided may make that clearer (I didn't read it due to the above warning).

Best Wishes,
Kurosh

i know this is an old thread, but if you read the notice of that symantec website correctly and look at the file they have mentioned, then you would know that the file in question is actually an UNINSTALLER to REMOVE some spyware from your pc....
