Hello all
I have installed the Microsoft security path time and time again. it has never stayed secure. I installed the msi files, but am unsure out of all the other files available which ones I need.

There are 4-5 options, and if I install the msi files , it still says my xml version 4 service pack 2 program is insecure. This has been an ongoing problem for 12 months.

Do I really need these files? What service do they perform?
Could I delete them with out causing problems? The only place I ever see them is in pc health in Windows.
The path is in system 32 in windows, so I assume they were originally an update from Microsoft, not a third party.

I have the same problem with incredimail, in fact I have taken it off my pc,s and now get my mail from Yahoo or off my server.Flash Player disappears often with Iobit when it scans and takes it out. It also removes Active X "issues" almost every time I use it.

As I have Photoshop CS3 these programs are a pain, I am forever installing them. I also have Ccleaner, which I have more control over, but it does not do as good a job as Iobit.

Any suggestions please would be very welcome.
Thanks Lina

Try what they suggest in that thread, and perhaps comment on any problems you're having there. You've posted this under a "Secunia PSI" problem, but it's really a "Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) 4.x" problem, so it would be better to post under that thread instead.

Also, you would probably be best to separate your issues into various posts depending on which program you're having problems with. It will be easier to address and will receive better attention, and easier for others to find with similar problems.

Best Wishes,
Kurosh

Lina,

MSXML 4 problem?

Rather than chase around various threads the facts are:

1. The latest version is MSXML 6 which was installed onto the XP platform by Windows SP3.
2. MSXML 4 is a standalone version that supports legacy 3rd party installs.
3. Microsoft have just released the final SP prior to it becoming obsolete on 13 April 2010.

Your problem should be resolved if you uninstall all versions of MSXML 4 SP2 - reboot - and then install MSXML 4 SP3 which is a complete replacement for SP2 & the various hot fixes.

As for any new install read the Release Notes> click the download button & your problem should be over.

The download link is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?fa...

Secunia picks it up as secure with version 4.30.2100.0

Incredimail.
There appears to be a problem with a file MFPL 7014.DLL which Incredimail need to fix. U are right to dump it until they get their act together.

An active (I think) thread that may keep U posted is here;

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/166...

Adobe Photoshop CS3
I assume this programme has got a Flash element problem? If that is the case sadly the only advice is to tell Adobe to update it to correct the problem they created with their Flash programme.

CCleaner v Iobit.
Not too sure what point U are making. Anyone who uses these types of programme in the belief that all their problems will disappear at the press of a button are living in Cuckoo Land. I earn a fair amount of money putting back files that these programmes take off in error! There is no doubt that CCleaner is the leader of the bunch & does at least give the user the option to check before deletion.

Hope this helps.

Hi all
Thank you for the information, I have not installed Service Pack 3, and perhaps I will not install it at all.

My work is all Graphic, I have no media, no video, not much of anything except Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements 7.All of those programs are on another pc. Both are Intel dual core 2 duo. and have all e sata. 4 gigs of ram, and a large power supply and large fan. 512 mbs of graphic from Asus, and an Asus motherboard.Flash Bios and an Antic heavy duty case.

This is why I asked do I really need XML files at all. I have tried to patch this pain for almost a year, but never been able to.

I understand about what you have to say re programs like Iobit and Ccleaner, I have configured them to deal only with Junk files and spyware.
I have a hard wired router and a software firewall, I also use Sandboxie on the rare occasions that I roam around the internet.

I never think that these programs are there to fix every problem in the world. I know what they can do to a system if you are not careful.

In the past 3 years on every pc I have owned, I have had no virus, no rootkits, no spyware of any great issue, and I am vigilant about updates and patches.

So my programs and other means for these kind of issues are Sophos root kit scanner,Pc tools firewall, Netgear router,Avira anti virus, Spyware Blaster, and Adaware.

I also of course have Secunia. I scan my pc, every day, I defrag my harddrive every day, I clean my temp, and junk and recent docs every day.I defrag my registry once a month, and I deep scan my hard drive as well once a month.

I have also a little thing I made with Microsoft Brush cleaner,
For those interested,
You need to click on Start> Run> type in cleanmgr /sageset:99
Then forever after you can run it as
Start> run> type in cleanmgr /sagerun:99 and it will clean so much more than if you use the normal brush cleaner.

Thanks for the help, just one simple question, do I really need to reinstall those xml core6 files, I have noticed that some people are already saying that the new version in question is now showing as a threat.
Thanks
Lina

Looks to me like U are well set up & protected.

U have not said if U have MSXML 6 currently installed being as U have not upgraded to SP3.

The short answer is if MSXML 6 is currently installed I would leave it alone.

If U do decide to install SP3 it will be installed. Again I would leave it alone.
