secunia keeps telling me that my office 2000 programs need security patches but Windows installer only wants to give that damned windows live.
Has Microsoft stopped supporting Office 2000 because it wishes to gouge customers (buy office 2007!) or does Vista offer its own protection (nice thought but not high probability in my experience)against Office 2000 built-in flaws?

Don't know if they've quit support or not but found this link-didn't check any further as I don't use M$ Office but I noticed near the bottom of the screen, not the page, there was a link to scan your comp & see if any updates were needed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266134

good luck, wr

Office 2000 is running out of life.

This snippet is from the Microsoft Office Lifecycle Bulletin.

Office 2000 Microsoft will continue to offer mainstream support for Office 2000 through June 30, 2004. The Office 2000 extended support period will last from July 1, 2004 through July 14, 2009. The latest Office 2000 service pack is required for hotfix support.

Thanks. I've down-loaded it but now have to figure out whether I can use it, as it comes complete with dire warnings against using it, if I don't have the specific issues, detailed somewhere else on the Microsoft help(?) pages.
I really do get extremely annoyed by that site and its supposition that their customers understand the explanations any better than the Techies, who've given them.
It'd be nice if Secunia could tell me the specific downloads that I need, instead of just telling me that I have security problems. It'd be nicer if Microsoft could, just for once, create a few lines of software, without deliberately built-in flaws.
Thanks, anyway.

thanks. I've just clicked through but the newest update refers to all platforms, except Vista. Vista seems to have been a big departure from previous platforms and always creates problems with software that is not specific to it.
I suppose I'll have to try this up-date, anyway. Fingers crossed.

Been trying to find a previous post I did on Office 2000.

U may continue to have problems with Office 2000 - Details from the Microsoft Family Project Support Lifecycle state:

Office 2000 Microsoft will continue to offer mainstream support for Office 2000 through June 30, 2004. The Office 2000 extended support period will last from July 1, 2004 through July 14, 2009. The latest Office 2000 service pack is required for hotfix support.

After July 2009 U will need this link.
