This auto update does not install either automatically or manually. When I attempt to install manually using the download from MS downloads website and selecting repair option on run, the wizard states install has been successful, but on rescan PSI states the program is unchanged and still insecure. Installation path is WINDOWS\system32\msxml4.dll and I am using Windows XP SP3.

Any other users having this problem? Alternatively, would there be any significant effect from uninstalling this program?

1. MSXML 4 is a standalone version that supports legacy 3rd party installs so U may require it.
2. Microsoft have released the final SP prior to it becoming obsolete on 13 April 2010.

Your problem should be resolved if you uninstall all versions of MSXML 4 SP2 - reboot - and then install MSXML 4 SP3 which is a complete replacement for SP2 & the various hot fixes.

As for any new install read the Release Notes here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/2/D/A2D85...

The download link is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...
The download file to select is MSXML.MSI 2.3MB

Secunia picks it up as secure with version 4.30.2100.0
After tests on my laptop I have now installed it on this platform & it works perfectly.

Thank you Maurice for your most helpful and rapid reply to my original post. Having followed your uninstall instructions to eliminate all SP2 elements, I installed SP3 from the MS site listed without any problems. PSI confirms a successful patch!

Me to. Your the one that provided the help. it took so long because my laptop couldn't delete the issues the normal way. I had to use my Antivirals Suite to get to the 2 different paths.
At the forum I use www.politicalwrinkles.com I suggested all to acquire Secunia. Stop in sometime. It isn't all politics.
