For the last two weeks, I have been running Secunia PSI and I get under insecure progams Microsoft Office Power Point 2003 and Mozilla Firefox 3.x. I have updated these programs at least 4 times during the period and I have gone to the Microsoft and Mozilla websites for the downloads. However, I still get insecure notices.
In end of life, I now get Yahoo Toolbar 6.x but I have installed Yahoo 7.
In ignore rules, I have Sun Java JRE 1.6 as I could not find any Java programs on my computer.
I just ran Secunia scan before and after writing this message and received the same 2 insecure and 1 end of life messages.
Any suggestions?

Adrian,
Very unwise to ignore an insecurity unless it is in either a backup drive or folder i386.

The answer to your Powerpoint problem is here:
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/186...

What are the paths to the other insecurities & End of Life programme?

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, please follow there guidelines using the
ADVANCED interface:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
* Click on the + sign of the programme to “expand’ it.
* Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file.

Finally, not a good idea to display your email address on a forum - Spammers paradise

The possible reason FF3+ may not be updating properly is because you have failed to disable your add-ons such as "No Scripts" and "Cookie controls" while downloading your update and quite possibly all items you are trying to update. Go to to customize and bring up "temporarily allow all this page": to menu, bookmarks or navigation tool bars and use it prior to downloading any download or install or simply disable your add-ons prior to downloads. Be sure to verify your downloads in your add/remove to see that they installed. I found a trick that works for me is to totally uninstall the old program and then go directly to whom evers site and download the new.
Remember to that I.E. has new security management and you need to watch that it is not engaged during the downloads. Usually a gold bar drops down from toolbar asking if you trust the site you are downloading from and wanting you to disable it.
I would go to add/remove and uninstall ALL java entries you are allowed to. I would then go directly to sun java and down load directly from there site. Go to add/remove and verify that the new update installed properly.
Secunia is a very sensitive and very good program. Trust in it and it will keep your system safe.

@wpartridge02

We cannot really help U with the information U have given.

The PATHS to the items are required in 2 clearly marked lists - End of Life & Insecure.

What OS are U using? XP? Vista?
What is the Service Pack (SP) of the OS?

Prior to submitting the list go here:
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/def...
Click the CUSTOM button & install all the updates U find.

Once completed rescan with PSI in the Advanced Mode. Submit your list by using this method:

Maaurice,
Thanks for your reply. As to the e-mail address, I am new on Secunia and will keep it in mind.
For some reason, possibly because my version is a free version, I am not able to access the Advanced interface.
I have downloaded the KB969615 more times than I can count. There were some additional suggestions on your link which I will try later today

Adrian,
PSI is free to everyone therefore surprised U cannot access the advanced mode.

I assume U are using version 1.0.0.4?

When U open PSI click on the OVERVIEW tab. Top right U we see Interface Mode click on advanced (coloured blue) - it should turn black & many more tabs will appear to help U pinpoint your insecurities.

If this does not work what error message are U getting?

Just out of curiosity,we are talking about Firefox browser Mozilla, right. If so,go to your add/remove and see what it is telling you about strictly Firefox: and what version you have. If what I think is going on, see if you show two versions installed. The old version and the updated. If so simply uninstall the old version, that should take care of Firefox.
The reason Mozilla does this is because the new version sometimes is unstable or operators want add-ons not available under new versions.

I really feel that Secunia does need to divide updates on Micosoft into two tabs those for XP and Vista both 32 bit and 64. response?

Maurice,
All is fixed. I did not realize that I was in the Advanced tab as I thought the highlighted Simple tab was the one that I was in. This time the Yahoo toolbar did get installed even though I had done it four times this week.
As to Mozilla, I uninstalled, reinstalled ran Secunia and got the same message. Apparently, when I uninstalled the program, it left a Mozilla file in the programs file. That was deleted, downloaded Mozilla and all is well. Thanks for your suggestions.

P.S. how is the weather in the UK. I just watched Manchester lose to Barcelona. My weather is in the 90's and no humidity. The location is Las Vegas.
