I reviewed all posts with similar titles and issues, both here in Secunia forums and at other websites. I turned off Zone Alarm, and Symantec Endpoint before running PSI. I reset IE internet options to default. I have access to the Secunia secure servers. My router is not blocking it. I don't use proxy.

License Agreement (and readme file) for version 1.0.0.4 includes the text: "In order to be able to access and use the Software and the Website Service, you must become registered as user (Registered User). To become a Registered User, you must complete your registration details in the manner described on the Website."

I was never prompted during installation (apparently like previous versions) to enter registration info. I searched Secunia's website for a registration page, but to no avail.

Using the command line verbose/debug features of PSI yielded the following:

Scanning file: 'C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI\psi.exe'
Scanning PE header for file: C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI\psi.exe
Offset=232
Timestamp: 0x49c78738
Connecting to psi.secunia.com:443
GET /psi_api/1004/?type=generate_uid&uid=&ui=agent&lan group=MSHOME&host=BRAIN2
Tearing down COM

Any suggestions?

Looks to me like U are set up.

U have a profile which can be checked by -

1. Clicking on Secunia profile next to Forum which is coloured orange on this page.

2. Checking the profile tab in the Advanced Mode of the programme.

The profile button you describe only adjust my forums profile. How do I instruct my PSI software about this registration?

By the way I get this "Unable to retrieve PSI user ID" error at the startup of PSI. There are no options to get further into the software. It simply closes/exits as soon as I click OK.

I can access the psi.secunia.com site. I accomplished the modifications to IE 8 and FF 3. However startup of PSI still has the error.

OK - I have requested help from Secunia Support. Busy time for them so may take a while.

Hi

It seems you have already tried the solutions we would normally suggest.

Be sure you don't have a firewall blocking the PSI and that you have added http://*.secunia.com and https://*.secunia.com to trusted sites in IE.

holy fracking crap: why do you insist on using explorer settings even when someone uses firefox and never uses explorer?

how the freek is someone ever supposed to get this to work? i have spent all freeking day on this BUG that a zillion others have written & posted about not only here but tons of other sites.

free great -- but why offer something if it does not work? and create so much bad will.

If U stop using expletives all over the Forum and read how Secunia works U would have noted it works off the back of IE.

The programme is free therefore to use it U accept how it works or find an alternative.

The fact U have spent all day on a none issue sums up your problem - lack of knowledge on the workings of the programme before using it.

In the prerequisites for the program it doesn't mention IE

But it doesn't work

It doesn't work for me either. I run Firefox but have IE8 on the system. Changelog specifically mentions Firefox browsers. At least the poster tried for a while, but the fact remains that the code does not work.
