Secunia finds one insecure program on my computer. This program is Trend Micro HouseCall ActiveX Control 5.x, ver 5.70.0.1085. When I open the folder that Secunia says the program is in, I cannot find the program in that folder. I have also tried to search for it using Trend Micro, and HouseCall and have not been able to find it. Suggestions?

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, please follow there guidelines using the
ADVANCED interface:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
* Click on the + sign of the programme to “expand’ it.
* Click on Technical Details in the Toolbox to see the installation path of the detected file.
* Remember the installation path and close down the menu.
* Click Open Folder and locate the detected file.

Have U changed the folder option to show all hidden files?

Have U tried Windows search asking it to search hidden files?

I have tried your suggestions and none have worked. The installation path is: c:\olddrive\olddrive\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\xscan53.ocx, but when I get to Downloaded Program Files, there is nothing in it like xscan53.ocx. I have changed the folder options to show all hidden files, and I have also done a Windows search and asked it to look at hidden files, and I have found nothing like that. I even asked it to specifically look in the Downloaded Program Files folder, and it did not find the xscan53.ocx.
I'm wondering if I should check the ignore program button.

Go to start>run>inthe box type REGEDIT>click OK

Once open highlight My Computer (top entry)

From the top row click edit>select FIND from the options>in the box type XSCAN 53.OCX>click find

It will now search the directory & give results. Check the entries found carefully & if U are sure U have found the it just delete it.

To find more entries click FIND NEXT after each result.

If not found replace the search parameter XSCAN 53 with DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES.

IF U ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE REGISTRY JUST MAKE A NOTE OF THE ENTRIES FOUND & POST THEM BACK HERE. TINKERING WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE END RESULT OF A DELETE ACTION CAN CAUSE THE MOST AMAZING UNEXPECTED RESULT!

Tried what you suggested. Found a few files with xscan53 and deleted all. Rescanned with Secunia and it says program is still insecure. Did not find any files using Downloaded Program Files.

U did insert this into your Windows search request? ifnot, insert it & ask to search My Computer including hidden files.

c:\olddrive\olddrive\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\xscan53.ocx

It is a non standard path which is somewhere on your PC.

When you say Windows search request, if you mean Start > Search, yes I did that. I also asked it to search hidden files. Just finished running some more searches and it came up with nothing.

I used the advice on the link you supplied on "How to find ActiveX Controls", and came up with 18 files, but none of the extensions were ocx. There were some files with Trend Micro that I would like to delete, but I don't know how to delete them or what to do with them. I also do not know how to copy the results from the command with the 18 files listed.

Make a note of the paths to those U want to delete. Use Windows search for them & when found delete.

It could be that those marked Trend Micro U wish to delete contain the ocx in the package

I've tried all kinds of searches using Regedit and CMD, and deleted anything that looks like it might belong to Trend Micro and House Call and when I do the Re-scan with Secunia, it says I'm still not secure. I can't find this file that Secunia seems to be finding.

@hobson

Copied this from anther thread - it appears to work.

Brilliant! Found it and deleted it. Slight correction and shortening for efficient:

launch command prompt from accessories in the programs list
type: cd c:\windows\downloaded program files
press enter
type: dir d*
press enter
find the correct file in the list
type: del <name of correct file without these braces>
press enter
type: exit
press enter

Your suggestion did not work. I only found two files when I used the CMD prompt, and they were dwusplay.dll and dwusplay.exe. I e-mailed tech supprot at Secunia, and they (Morten Hansen) suggested I delete the whole file, olddrive, olddrive, windows, downloaded program files, which I did and I now have no insecure programs according to Secunia.
Maurice, thanks for all your help.

Hi Yokenny ,

I'm told there is a North American .org or something where you can report spam url's and where Secunia could send the email adresses of these miscreants ; maybe you know of it.

I think Maurice Joyce is planning to set up an open air holiday camp for them on Mars , with remedial education thrown in !!

Take care
Anthony.

Maybe, Secunia should give us a trash bin where we can deposit by dragging their names into for future spam blocking.

I vote with you puget1, and others, need site moderator to close down threads that have nothing to do with current topic or are obviously sent by spammers. Maurice Joyces idea about the spare Tomahawk ain't bad either-put them on a planet to themselves. Otherwise hope everybody is having a wonderful weekend.

Regards, wr
